Pawnee front seal leak by
Andy[_1_]
Thanks to those that replied to my post in September. One Pawnee was
fixed by changing the crank seal, the other was fixed by snugging down
the governor plate nuts. It took a while to hear about this as I
don't see the mechanics that often.
I was not able to reply on that old thread.

Smartphone question by
kirk.stant
I'm looking at getting a Dell Streak 5 to use in the cockpit (running
XCSoar) and I'm wondering if it is necessary to have a phone contract
to use it or can I just use the "tablet" features as is?
Obviously, it would be an "unlocked" Streak, and I know I couldn't
place calls with it....
Would it...

SGS 2-33A Form337 for Radio/Transponder by
T[_2_]
We are looking for any existing Form337 to install a battery driven
electrical system in an SGS 2-33A. We are tucked in close to Class B
airspace that is about to expand in the next year and feel a
transponder would be a great idea in all of our gliders. We've been
using handheld radios for years,...

Does the FAA have written policy WRT landouts? by
Larry Suter
A student landed out just short of our airport in our club's 1-26 last
Saturday. No damage, no injuries, glider readily returned to it's
tiedown.
Apparently, the airport manager told his bosses about it and they
chewed him out for not immediately reporting the landout to NTSB.
The story goes on...

Words of Wisdom for Pilots by
Dan Marotta
A good review, many old, some new, some false, most true.

Fighter Pilots: Cold, steely eyed, weapons systems managers who kill bad
people and break things. However, they can also be very charming and
personable. The average Fighter Pilot, despite...

Removing vinyl letters by
Gary[_5_]
Working on my ASW-20 today. Changing the contest numbers and N# which
are old vinyl markings. My guess is they were applied around 1995
when the fuselage was refinished.
A fingernail did not get an edge started so looking for the best way
to remove these with relative ease.
Thanks

Could I impose upon those of you more experience soaring types and ask your opinion of the Standard Cirrus? Pros? Cons? Indifferences? I am looking for my first ship.

from an instructor, but...

Schleicher K 13 aerobatic approval by
James Rizzo Esq
We are examining the Type Certiifcate for the K13. The original indicates
aerobatics including spins "not approved".
in 1967 Schleicher issued an AD approving semi aerobatics and spins, and
printed a modified page 22 to the flight manual. Does this automatically
modify the type certificate? ...
