Recorder Serial Number by
Dan Marotta
Trying to get my new Android device configured with XCSoar and I'm faced
with the question of my recorder serial number. Can I recover that from one
of the log files or do I have to trek to the airport (it's snowing outside),
hook up, and read the serial number from the CAI-302?
The logs I've...

Be cheap! by
bumper[_4_]
What's the cheapest, but still much appreciated, glider toy you can
give your friends (or yourself) for Christmas?
MKIV "high tech" yaw string or Quiet Vent kit (reduces wind noise from
Mecaplex flip-out vent by 10dba in my ASH26E).
Now available at Cumulus Soaring too.
Merry Christmas!

OLC and Cambridge 10/20/25 support ending by
Roy Clark, \B6\
I was an early (and remain a) strong supporter of the OLC - gave the
first OLC presentation to the Seattle Glider Council (SGC) - for
stimulating growth in cross-country soaring. Check-out the increase
in SGC participation over the life of the OLC!
As a Cambridge 20 user, I lament the end of...

FAA Exemption 4988 by
RAS56
Data plate exemption letter, to be carried in all gliders in the USA. From what I can tell, the latest extension expired at the end of October 2011.
Anyone heard an update on if a new extension has been granted and if so, a link to it?
Updating the paperwork in the off season...
Thanks,
Rob

Stinson 108-1 as a tug? by
Gary Boggs
Has anyone used a Stinson 108 to tow? I'm considering a 108-1 with a
190hp 0435 in it. I know it won't be as good as a Pawnee, but will it
be good enough?
Thoughts and opinions please.

Cambridge 302 USB Port by
Karl Kunz
I have a few questions regarding the USB port on the later Cambridge 302. The Cambridge manual leaves much to be desired in explaining what it can do.
Is the USB port supposed to supply power to a PDA or other device?
Are you able to transfer files both ways with a PDA or PocketPC (logs and...

Power FLARM portable reports? by
Andy[_1_]
The long awaited Power FLARM portable was delivered to customers some
weeks ago but I have seen no reports about how well it it performing.
Is this just because the soaring season is over for most US pilots?
Does anyone have some test result or impressions to share.

U-2 conversion thoughts by
Martin Gregorie[_5_]
A friend reminded me, again, about the films of rookies landing U-2s and
not knowing to do with the rudder on roll-out or (in some cases) the need
keep the wings level as long as possible.
This reminded me that both are things all glider pilots understand and,
by extrapolation, to wonder why...

Lifting The Blues by

This was a documentary by Sproxton (don't know the first name) and
Nick Park of the 1988 UK Std. Class Nationals. I recall seeing this
when I was in Australia a few years ago and I liked it.
Now I'm gathering select soaring videos for a Soaring Video Film Fest
to be run at the Reno, Nevada (USA)...
