Devin kicked out of junior worlds. by
Mitch Hudson
Rec.aviation.soaring favorite, Devin was kicked out of the Junior
Worlds for being up until 4:00 AM drinking on flying days, and general
disrespect for the coaching staff. It is unfortunate that such a
potentially talented young pilot was unable to meet his duties to the
U.S. team due to his...

ClearNav vs. LX 9000 by
Mitch Polinsky
I searched for a comparison on the rec.aviation.soaring site for a
comparison between ClearNav and an LX 9000, but didn't find anything
directly comparing the two (I apologize if I somehow missed it). I'm
finalizing plans for a panel for a new glider and would be grateful
for any advice from users...

K8b recover info needed by
Ken Latam
Anyone know how much fabric is required to do a recover of a K8 ? In
square meter's or yard's. Looking at picking one up as a possible club
single seater but it needs a recovering job. I'd hate to have to order
twice or order twice as much.

Vario Problems by
jp4711
My glider is equipped with L-NAV/GPS-NAV. Over the past weeks I have
noticed some problems with the vario. For example it gets stuck and
shows constant lift (visual and audio). Turning the instrument on/off
does not help. Slapping the instrument panel has helped. That makes
me think it is a...

UK Contest Finishes by
johngalloway[_2_]
For information, and because there seems to be some misunderstanding
in the "Idaho Fatality" thread about what is and is not allowed in UK
contests since the tragic finish line fatality, see Para 22.2 and
section 34 of the BGA competion rules...

Low pass by
Cookie
After giving it just a little thought...
Not to deflate some of those egos out there...but.....the low pass is
a maneuver requiring no particular pilot skills whatsoever! I mean
it's...go fast...slow down...turn around......duh...not particularly
dangerous.....I mean anybody can do...

Status US PowerFLARM shipments by
ursus
Pilots have been flying in Uvalde and feedback is positive, see
postings on R.A.S and other locations e.g. John Cochrane:

Nevertheless there are some issues which require our attention:

Hobbs Meter with Airspeed activation by
Paul Remde
Hi,
I have a customer that has 2 2-seat (ASK-21) gliders for a commercial
operation. He is trying to find for them "Hobbs meters" with switches that
start allow the meter to record time only when in flight (over some airspeed
threshold). Of course, it would not be ideal if it recorded when on...

ELT's by
Dick[_3_]
A couple of years ago there was talk of denying entry in to contests
all gliders that were not equipped with ELT's. I immediatly ordered a
121.5 / 406 Mhz model. It came the other day, a year and a half
later. It includes a clunky antenna that would have to be mounted
outside of a carbon hull. ...

ASK-21 control surface seals by
kirk.stant
Our club (SLSA) just acquired a nice "pre-owned" ASK-21. It doesn't
have any external seals (tape) on the ailerons and elevator. Is this
worth doing, like on the G-103?
Also, do any ASK-21 operators remove the main gear fairing when
operation off grass? Bit of an argument developing in the club...
