Dick Padgett passed away by
FZ[_2_]
Our dear friend Dick Padgett passed away last night, June 22. Dick was a war hero as a B-17 pilot in WWII, and in civilian life loved to fly, teach and tow. He represented many of the great things we love about aviation - professionalism, joy, sharing, teaching and making everyone feel that they...

Ventus bT/cT comparison by
Jim Pengelly
Hi everyone,
I fly a Discus bT at the moment and absolutely love it. However, I
am thinking of upgrading to a flapped turbo in the next one or two
seasons and the Ventus bT/cT would seem to be the natural
choice.
I have heard conflicting opinions about the various models:
i) The bT has...

2019 Hobbs 18M/Open Class Nats. Day 7 6/26/19 by
[email protected]
Today we have a high pressure system a little to the north creating a subsidence inversion which will probably reduce the lift band somewhat. There is a 50/50 chance of cu and possibly bases as high as 13000 ft. It's also possible day will stay blue with best climbs no higher than 10000 to 12000...

ASW 20 Gear well full of dirt - Any improvements? by
[email protected]
Landed out in a very soft dirt field during the Region 8 contest, and had so much dirt in my gear well and glider, that I spent the next 3 hours that evening vacuming and blowing it out. Still don't have it all out.
The -19 and -20 gliders don't have the fully sealed gear box that the newer ships...

Flight review required? by
Terry Pitts
This came up today on askacfi.com.
Most of us have seen someone who used to fly but hasn't for years and decides to take up soaring. These people have no medical, no flight review, and no 90-day currency. They cannot fly whatever it is they used to fly, but with some - maybe a lot - of time and...

Hobbs 18M/Open Class Nats. Day 6 Tuesday, 6/25 by
[email protected]
The dry line is now sitting on or near us so there is a good chance for showers in the task area later today. Good cu, but again, another chance of widespread areas preventing lift. The grid time is earlier and hopeful launch time 11:30 to get pilots back before potential weather. Primary is a...

Strong Paracushion 303 Emergency Chute F/S by
Michael Opitz
eBay listing is: 303200018869
Pictures, price and description there. 1997 case. Canopy and pilot
chute replaced with brand new in 2010. I got it from a club member who has
aged out of flying. It presents as practically new. Last re-
pack was in April 2019, so it is current and airworthy. ...

Ventus rigging advice, please? by
John McLaughlin
I've recently started flying a Ventus2. I can't rig the thing without a lot
of
struggle. The trouble is, there's a cover above the spars and you can't see
anything once the first wing is in.
I struggle to get the second wing to fit, never knowing whether it's a bit
too
high or a bit too low....

Day 3 Region 8 Ephrata Wa by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Well whoever forecasts the weather around here has got to be fired.
This morning NOAA was forecasting Down pouring rain and windy.
HA, what a joke.
This morning it cleared off and was blue and the wind about stopped.
Dale Bush called a MAT with the first turn Waterville.
Getting off tow I took one...

Trailer plans by
Geoff Minors
Looks like the trailer for my Open Cirrus is falling apart from its trip across Canada!!
I am thinking I should build a new trailer myself which I have no problem with.
Are there any plans out there I can purchase or scrounge? Thinking of a clam type shell trailer.
Thank for help.

Day 5 Region 8 Ephrata Wa by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Day canceled due to a thick layer of high cirrus.
They launched off 4 of us and we droned around for awhile.
Just before 2 PM Dale Bush called it off then a few minutes later the cirrus cleared, it came on and we had a booming day.
Did two valley laps and had a great time.
Several others launched...
