Increased Skin Cancer Rates in Pilots and Air Crews by
Bob
I made my 6 month check up visit to my skin doctor yesterday, and in
our conversations I mentioned I was a glider pilot and was trying my
best to not have any more malignancies.
I was pleased that nothing was found that needed to be cut off (for a
change), but still had the usual substantial number...

Nice soaring spread in May 2012 AOPA PILOT magazine by
Bob
The May 2012 AOPA PILOT magazine has a very nice 6 page spread on
soaring, including a 2 page-wide shot on pages 2 and 3 (the contents
pages). Short article, large photos from Omarama. This is good PR
for soaring with the rest of the flying community.

Space exploration can be interesting sometimes. BIG lift on Mars!
Some of our recent lousy lift in competitions could use a bit of this
here on Earth. Hang on! Vario is pegged!

Deadly week by
Bob
It appears the last weekend was pretty deadly for gliding in the
west. We had a gas-powered Tarus go in north of Durango, killing its
pilot, and reading other reports, there was reported a 2-32 somewhere
else in Colorado involved in a fatal during a check ride, and a guy
reported to be flying...

"Jetman" considered by FAA to be a "glider" by
Bob
Another "jet" in the news today in Arizona. Yves Rossy, the Swiss guy
who has small wings with jets attached to his back, who drops out of a
helicopter, starts the engines and flies around using his body and
arms for control, and then lands under parachute, had planned a
"flight" over the Grand...

Predecessor to the ETA - BIG ANCIENT self launcher by
Bob
Being a retired earth systems scientist, I try to keep up on whats in
the news, and do a lot of reading, especially when it is available on
the web. And, being involved in gliding (formerly in hang gliding) I
found a recent article in SCIENCE NEWS to be "interesting." Check

What are the hardware requirements for See You PNA? Would an X400

Vintage Home Gliding Movie(s) by
Bob
One of our Texas Soaring Association (TSA) members, Dave White,
discovered a VHS tape in a dusty old drawer at TSA made by June Wiberg
who compiled and narrated all of her old glider days home movies from
the 40's to the early 60's and sent it to TSA. June was the wife of
Wally Wiberg, who owned a...

Eberle trailer wheel rims by
Bob
Hi
I own an Eberle clamshell trailer. I have no spare wheel, and am
in search of one. I have visited at least four local tire shops where
I live (in Canada) with no luck. I know the trailers are of European
manufacture, and the bolt pattern may be metric. Canada uses the
metric system, but...

Near mid-air by
Bob
In the Orange County Soaring Association newsletter Zero Sink First
Quarter 2010 there is a good article on a near mid-air. A couple of
things jumped out at me as I was reading the Article.
1. The towplane involved in the near mid-air did not have a radio!
2. The tow path apparently was in the...

PLASTIC FAA AIRMANS CERTIFICATE by
Bob
There were some problems with glider pilots getting new plastic
certificates for a while. I got an email from Airman Services stating
they had corrected the problem. Sure nuff. No problems now. Get
your new plastic certificate via the web and have it in your wallet in
about 2 weeks

Glider Decal by
Bob
Does anyone have a source for the white glider decal that has been
seen for a while now on car windshields. It is a head on view of a 'T'
tailed glider which measures around 15" in width and a couple inches
high.
Thanks,

Bob
Hi,
Does anyone have any information or experience concerning the purchase
of a tow plane (Pawnee) that has a Special Airworthyness Certificate?
Is there anything that has to be done or be made aware of prior to
purchase?
Thanks for any advice.

Cambridge 302A/303/SNav question by
Bob
Hi,
Has anyone ever tried connecting a Cambridge 302A (FR) to a Cambridge
303 display and then use the same GPS source to drive an SNav?
Even though you wouldn't get final glide aound a turnpoint in the Snav
is the 302A able to support a GPS signal to the 303 as well as the
SNav?
Thanks for any...
