WinPilot polar file data points by
[email protected]
I'm looking at some of the polar files WinPilot uses and I'm curious
about the speed points that are selected to be the three ones in the
file. Assuming sink rate data are available for many different speeds
(see any of DJ's flight tests), is there a method to picking the best
three to go in a...

We have one glider pilot less by
iPilot
I'm sorry to say that another Estonian glider pilot passed away on April
16-th after spinning to earth on final because making a downwind turn at
100ft while trying to eliminate excess heght. Glider involved was Cobra-15
(rented from our club).
It particularly hurts us because there's so few of us...

How many US Glider Examiners-Answer by
Terry
A few weeks ago, I asked that question here and a few other places that
would generate the answer. This morning, the answer fell into my lap.
There are 72 examiners authorized to conduct the CFI exam, and 24 more
that are only authorized to conduct private and commercial for a total
of 96.
My...

New soaring weblog by
Roger Worden
I've started a blog about my experiences as a student pilot and now as a
low-time private. I hope this will be helpful to new soaring student pilots.
When I was starting out, I found a wonderful web site for those new to the
sport, that really helped me a lot. That site's gone, so I thought I'd...

Flying dogs in Australia by
Charles Yeates
1.A Mooney was taking off at Albury Woodonga, NSW -- the pilot had an
Irish setter on board. As the ship accelerated for take-off, the excited
dog jumped from the back seat into the baggage compartment, hit the
compartment door, which, unlocked, opened. The dog put his head out,
automobile window...

ALAMOGORDO FIESTA 2004
The White Sands Soaring Club had a great "first" Fiesta over the
Memorial Day holidays. The club felt that late May and early June would
provide better soaring than the Turkey Fest that was held for years.
They were certainly correct and we have been able to enjoy the...
