Blistering of Finish by
Uniform Zulu
I'm looking at purchasing an LS-3 but the owner has
noted that the Urethane finish has blistered in several
places on the tops of the wings (The glider was re-finished
in 1996). According to the owner they are very small
blisters which have left pin sized holes. I'm assuming
that this would be...

Polyurethane finish? by
Uniform Zulu
I recently purchased a glider which was refinished
in polyurethane and I'm wondering what is the best
way to look after the finish?
Should I put something like wxblock on it or just use
a good automotive wax? should it be hard waxed and
buffed like gel coat?
What about fixing any problem areas?...

ASW-15 Impressions by
[email protected]
For the guys here who are familiar with 1970’s soaring, have any of you owned an asw-15 and what were your impressions of them?
I flew one once many many years ago but it was just an early morning 15 minute sleigh ride and I was a kid. I don’t know how I would fit now (6ft 1in, 190 lbs but...

Soaring Not Dead Everywhere by
[email protected]
Well soaring isn’t dead everywhere. Today we got 14 flights in, private ships, and all three of the 1-26’s and solo flights in the club blanik. Social distancing in order, wipe downs of the club birds and all had fun. We didn’t need any ventilators but we did get up close to 7,000ft, thats...

Glider Fire Sale by
[email protected]
Question for u guys. Do you think we are going to see a massive glider fire sale after this china virus deal subsides? I wonder if this crisis and its associated lack of flying opportunities is going to convince many of the non-die-hard guys to leave the sport and divest themselves of many good...

Clubs Still Flying List by
[email protected]
What clubs are still flying? I’d like to get a feel for what’s really happening out there in the “actual” not simulated soaring scene. Us at central alabama soaring are still in the air albit with limited and heavy precautionary activities. Just solo flying. I towed a few on friday and...

Are You Ashamed to Land Out? by
[email protected]
Read the article regarding the diminishment of guys pursuing badges and a commonly held misconception that it takes greater than 30/1 to do xc, another thought came to mind. Namely, is there a stigma attached to landing out within the modern soaring community? Could this be a reason why guys are...

If Your Not Flying Do Something by
[email protected]
While many of you live in areas where flying is shut down, don’t waste the time watching the View (ridiculous), the news (depressing), or the stock market (down right scary). Theres much you can do that will jump start your soaring season once this viral mess is done. Here’s some suggestions,...

Hello Guys. I am restoring another 1-26 and have a spare older 302 I would like to use. Have any of you used that vario without the external TE probe, setting it to the internal compensation mode? The manual for it does’nt recommend it but I would like to save the bother and drag associated with...

1-26 Racing by
[email protected]
I have been reading some of the stories of the 1-26 Championships of years past. The Mockler boys and others who went on to racing higher performance ships cut their teeth doing these highly competative races.
Maybe some of you big wing boys (18-20m) might want to consider joining us for some...
