Thermal mapping by
John
Here is a thought:
Was in the back yard making thousands of soap bubbles (Mr. Bubbles)
for the baby. Slight breeze. Clearly could tell the entire airflow
pattern in the back yard....even a little ridge lift over the glider
trailer!
Wonder if you could add a soap bubble machine to a sailplane? ...

"Hands off" decent from altitude with spoilers? by
MHende6388
I was taught during wave training that all sailplanes, properly trimmed, when
you let go of the controls, will seek a gentle banked circle to one direction
and maintain that attitude, even in light turbulence.
There must be great variation from one a/c to the next with varied CG and...

Paint for white fiberglass trailer top by
Senna Van den Bosch
I got an older Anschau Komet trailer that needs some care and decided to repaint the entire top side, which is white painted fiberglass. What paint would you recommend for doing this? I'd like it to be a bit glossy and waterproof, as the trailer will stay outside in summer but hangared in winter....

Ventus C, 15m vs 17.6m by
Mike N.
Just curious, how is the performance of the Ventus C with 17.6m tips installed versus standard 15m with good winglets?
I have done some searching and seen some consensus that the 16.6m tips are typically not used much due to the performance degradation at high air speeds. But what about the 17.6...

Ultralight sailplane aerotow liability by
Caracole
We recently had a pilot show up and ask if we would aerotow him in his
Sparrow Hawk. Our first question was to ask if the glider was
licensed. His reply was that it was not required to be licensed. Our
second question was if he had insurance on the glider. He replied by
asking if insurance was...

Questions to ASH26E or ASH25 MI owners by
Ludovic Launer[_2_]
Hi,
A few questions, on behalf of a friend, to the ASH26E owners.
On the Wankel Mid-West AE50R engine:
- Has anyone ever had any leaks problems in the cooling system ? There's
quite a fair amount of cooling liquid being lost at every run. Further
inspections did not show any leaks in the pipes,...

Hotellier connections by
Mike
I was watching my friend struggle with (AD required)safty wires for
Hotellier connectors on his recently purchased Pegasus. He said the
AD notes alternatives to the safty wires like the Wedekind sleeves.
Anyone know if these are retrofittable and where they can be obtained.
I'm sure this has been...

You know you are addicted to soaring when.... by
[email protected]
So I'm reading this thriller novel called 'Blowout' by Dorgan and Hagberg. It is set at a remote secret site in North Dakota, and the front cover shows a flat, featureless snow-covered plain with what looks like a chemical plant in the background. In the foreground, just above the title is a big...

What electronics are worth buying by
John Huthmaker
With Christmas coming up, what are some things worth asking Santa for? Is there any decent GPS devices that are reasonably priced? I'm thinking around the $500 mark. I already have a handheld transceiver. I have a nice headset for power planes. I have a parachute. At my soaring club, all of...

Has anyone gotten a response from Centrair on Pegasus parts? by
tooromeo
I have sent to Emails to Centrair to get pricing info on the parts needed
for the AD's. I received one message that described the cost for the hinge
pins and rivets.
I haven't heard anything else from them about wiring money over there to
purchase the parts. Does anyone have their wiring...

TOST E85 RELEASES by
[email protected]
Can anyone out there confirm whether the timeframe for the overhaul for
Tost E85 releases is still 2000 flights, or has that been extended ?.
I seem to remember from the dark recesses of my mind that it had been
extended, but I have been known to be wrong.
Thanks in advance. Cheers, Charles

Wide-ranging Safety Discussion...? by
BobW
I might be wrong, but my sense is that now in this soaring season, and
considering *only* quantity of gliders "substantially damaged" or worse, few
semi-regular, US-based, RAS readers would not agree this U.S. season is -
statistical pedantry aside - already distinctly...
