64 M20c Avionics Cover Sealing? by
BellSouth.net News
We are working on a 64 M20C Mark21, it does not have the "forward windshield
speed mod", still the factory design. There are two panels in front of the
windshield on the outside that cover the avionics assembly inside. They
have been sealed with silicone so many times that it took us 4 hours...

64 M20C Turn/Slip replacement by
BellSouth.net News
Looking for options to replace the original factory Turn/Slip in a 64 M20C.
It seems to have a volt meter in it. So is there any specific requirement
to replace it with a specific TC? Would prefer a TC as opposed to
Turn/Slip. If someone has done it and can point me to the...

Carpeting Quesion - New Cessnas? by
BellSouth.net News
On the new Cessna 172's, Cessna uses a Black mat type carpeting in the
front, then it goes to actual carpet in the back.
I'm looking for a source for the black mat in the front to do the floor in a
Mooney. Anyone know what they use or where I might get some? I believe
it's a polypropylene type...

Ben
Hello,
As a senior in high school, i was able to get my private pilot's
license on dec 31, 2003. i love flying(what pilot doesn't, right?)
but i'm looking for a cheaper way to build hours then renting. i was
just playing with an idea, and i wanted your responses. Would an

FAA rule change for charity flights? by
Ben Haas
Hi Guys, Another one of our local EAA members emailed me with news the
FAA is wanting to increase the total time a pilot has from 200 hours
to 500 before they can give rides in a plane. This was brought up
because our chapter is really active the the Young Eagles program and
some of the newest...

Website for finding purchase partners? by

Hi there,
Are there any websites for people to find other people interested in
putting together a partnership to purchase airplanes? I've searched on
the obvious terms with no luck.
Thanks!

Mysteries of your plane... by
Ben Jackson
Now that I own my own plane I keep thinking I've crawled around it
enough to know what's what, but I keep finding new things...
The day I got it: Lots of odds and ends in every pocket and cubbyhole.
Within a week: Hanging upside down in the front seats I discovered
that each seat frame had a...

Regulator/valve for filling struts by
Ben Jackson
I'd like to get a tank of N2 to keep around to fill my struts. I assume
the welding supply place that will sell me the tank can sell me a regulator
that will get me into the 300-500psi range (right?). Where can I get
the hose with appropriate (schraeder?) valve for the strut end? Am I
looking...

What thickness for new side windows? by
Ben Jackson
What are the pros/cons of thicker replacement side windows? Does the
thickness of the sides affect noise much? Is the 1/4" replacement stuff
significantly heavier?

Flap/aileron don't line up -- always a problem? by
Ben Jackson
My Comanche seems to fly straight, no heavy wing (without fuel imbalance)
and make book speeds. With the autopilot on in smooth air, and enough
right rudder trim to center the ball, the left flap and aileron line up.
The right flap and aileron do not. The flap is about 1/2" lower. The
aileron...

Cleaning contacts on fuel senders by
Ben Jackson
I hear that potentiometer-based fuel senders can be revitalized by soaking
them in a solvent to remove accumulated gunk. I'm wondering if they can
be sprayed in place by running the tank dry and using a tuner cleaner
(I think it's mostly dichlorofluoroethane). Will that stuff destroy
fuel...

Online cost of airplane ownership spreadsheet by

For a long time I've been meaning to convert my cost of ownership
spreadsheet into a web page. Over the weekend I wrote a rudimentary
sc-to-html converter (sc is an ancient, terminal based spreadsheet).

I've already filled the page with caveats and disclaimers...

Replacing innertubes without replacing tires? by
Ben Jackson
I picked up a set of airstop-style tubes in my last AC Spruce order. I
was reviewing tire maintenance procedures and saw a recommendation that
you not re-use innertubes because they set slightly stretched and there's
a risk of pinching or folding them when they are reinstalled.
So, considering...

Can you mix oil weights? by
Ben Jackson
Let's say you're at a point where you need to add a quart of oil.
You've decided you would like to finish this oil change interval at
a lighter weight (eg you put in AeroShell W100, SAE-50, and now it's
freaking cold). Can you add a quart of a (substantially?) lighter
weight oil (presumably in the...
