1960's Disney soaring movie by [email protected]
It's available from Cumulus Soaring. That's where I got my copy. I also picked up Dawn Flight at the Little Rock Convention from them. Mark

Electronic TE compensation, will this work? by soaringjac
I am working through and investigating a leaking TE line in my ship. Leak tested the TE line and it seem to be wide open. Still have some more testing to do but as of now my feeling is the leak is in the fin and completely inaccessible. I think its leaking at the back of the TE port in the fin. I...

New Powerplant by [email protected]
The August issue of AOPA PILOT reports a "tiny jet engine" is being developed with 150 lbs of thrust. Its 15" long, 8.6" in diameter and weighs 19 lbs. I wonder what it costs? This sounds like a great power to weight ratio.

ASW-20 spins by Jonathan St. Cloud
Saw the quote below in another thread regarding spoilers open while turning (it was actually in the comment section under the video ) and was wondering if anyone could comment? This is the proper spin recovery technique. "The ASW 20 killed a number of pilots by spinning inverted out of a steep...

Flarm Butterfly display by [email protected]
Installed the core and 57mm butterfly display today. Upgrade to 2.79 went smooth. Tried to upgrade the butterfly display to 3.01 from the core. Negative on the butterfly upgrade. The release notes say it does update from the core. I could not find any special procedures. The website says version...

What could cause extremely high effort to release a Tost CG hook on aTwin Astir? by Bill D
The scenario is winch rope break practice with the instructor pulling the release to simulate rope breaks. I'm not talking about just an ordinary hard pull. This is a maximum-effort, adrenaline pumped, two-handed strain to get the release to work. On the ground, the CG hook checks out as a...

"W" is JFK's son and Bush revenge killed Kennedy in 1963 by Ross C. Bubba Nicholson
JFK gave Barbara Pierce a lesson in life in the summer of 1944 (making her a "Cape Cod heiress"), and to her eventual husband, JFK gave a personal motive for revenge. Perhaps if George and Barb had announced their earlier engagement or even if George had given Barb a diamond instead of a cheap...

Advertising for tow pilots by [email protected]
like many clubs, we have troubles finding enough tow pilots. We have a Pawnee tow plane so we need to find the ever fewer pilots that are tailwheel qualified, and meet the insurance minimums. The other big issue is finding the candidate pilots that are qualified and interested in spending their...

Dittel FSG-71M LCD by Marc Ramsey
I have a circa '92 Dittel FSG-71M in a newly purchased glider which works fine, except that the LCD is in bad shape. The digits are barely readable due to lack of contrast, the LCD glass looks to have sustained some sort of damage. Has anyone replaced one of these? Marc

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British". Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more...

Kestrel 17 Polar by Jim Archer
I am curious as to why the Kestrel polar is not included in any of the flight recorders/flight computers. I have one loaded into my SN-10 from the polar data in the manual so it's not a burning issue, but I'm feeling a bit left out!

New Video From Nephi and Update on 2014 Nephi Events by [email protected]
Just uploaded my latest video from last Saturday's 500km O&R (out and return) Utah state record attempt. Was beyond an amazing day with Nephi and Utah again not disappointing. Yes, I promise to work on keeping my damn hand still on the stick! The controls are so light on the 27 you don't know you...

BB/WSJ in the news by Ed Byars
Congrats to BB (John Cochrane) for the lead article on the Opinion page of the Wall Street Journal this morning! It is a great piece but after reading it I still am in doubt as to what to do financially. I "got out" 2000 Dow points ago (10,000) and am clueless as to what to do now with my money...

Good Digital Water Meter Wanted by Paul Remde
Hi, I currently sell a nice mechanical water meter for use when filling the glider wings. It works great. The only thing it is lacking is the ability to zero the meter. Therefore, you need to make note of the number before you start filling and calculate what number you want to arrive at...

Kent Gliding Club (UK) by Justin Fielding
Hi guys, I have been thinking about starting to fly gliders (I have previously flown R/C and Paragliders). I am based in the Southern London suburbs, Kenley is only about 15 mins from me, but they do not fly over the weekends from what I can tell, so for a person who works Mon-Fri this makes it...

235 Maule for towing by Jim Harper
Hi. For reasons unrelated to soaring, I am in the market for a Maule, M(x)-235 (where x= 4,5,6,or 7). I am fairly active in my local club and we occasionally find ourselves short a tow plane. There is an STC'd tow hook for the thing, so I wanna know: Anyone ever tow with or behind a Maule 235? I...
