A-6 crash after launch? by
DDAY
I was watching a documentary called "Top Gun" on the Military Channel.
They had some footage of some cat launches gone wrong. In one an A-6 took
off the waist catapult of a carrier and started losing altitude almost
immediately. Then something really big fell off the plane, it started to
roll,...

pearl harbor, why no usn a/c in the air? by
old hoodoo
I have never heard of a single navy aircraft getting airborne at Pearl Harbor. Was this because all the naval aircraft were based
at a single facility? Has there ever been an accounting of what actually happened to immobilize the navy air?
The army managed to get up an assortment of fighters...

Navy Wings? by
nmg175
Saw a B/G Marine with what appeared to be Navy Pilot Wings on his tunic on
C-SPAN.
But these were different, they had a Star in the middle, looked very similar
to the U.S. Air Force Senior Pilot wings.
Have they gone to this approach, with Command Pilot also?
Or where these some sort of other...

VX-4 phantom loads by
Rob van Riel
VX-4 has created some of the most spectacular paintjobs seen on F-4
Phantoms, and as such are prime subjects for scale models. I could of
course build such planes with nothing, or only fuel tanks under the wings,
I prefer to have a little more variation in loadouts. Given that VX-4 was
a test...

Top Gun 2 by

"If you suddenly, inexplicably feel the need for
speed, the urge to belt out "You've Lost That
Loving Feeling" in a bar... or the strange inkling
to play beach volleyball in jeans, there's a
reason: Paramount Pictures officially wants to
reunite Tom Cruise, director Tony Scott and
producer Jerry...

BRAC Logic....NAS Brunswick by
Andrew C. Toppan
I'm trying to figure out the BRAC logic in the realignment of NAS
Brunswick, Maine. The plan is to relocate all the planes to NAS
Jacksonville but keep Brunswick open as a Naval Air Facility.
I can understand the rationale for moving to Jacksonville -
consolidating the P-3/P-8 fleets to a single...

Nice, finally!
No hub-center cannon though ;)

Where will the money come from... by
s.p.i.
To pay for the envisioned force structure below? Well the seemingly
inviolate 12 carrier hull money is most likely one place. With what
is being proposed why would you need 12 carriers anyway?
Maybe its time to begin to transform Naval Aviation away from being so
completely centered around a...

F-8 versus F-4 by
Doug \Woody\ and Erin Beal
Here's another Hunter Reunion thing.
Met several pilots at the reunion that transferred out of VF-201 quickly
when it transitioned from the F-8 to the F-4.
None of them had ANY interest in going from a fighter to an interceptor.
Was this common during that period? AND was it a mission thing or...

Harrier vs. JSF-35 by
Merlin
The JSF will be very late and very expensive.
The British have not even started to build the Aircraft Carrier
yet that it is supposed to operate from !
It is a pity that the Harrier was not developed further ?
An 'Invincible' Class carrier with Harriers and Osprey AEW is
probably the way to go...

NOT Bush-
A Governor in TX stated he helped GW get into the ANG. GW chose the one A/C
least likely to go to SE Asia(F-102). Knowing what I do of the A/C(F-102
capabilities at the time), the ANG(a flying club using USAF equipment), ther
