RC Drones versus RC Helicopters by
Six-Seven Romeo
Forgive me if this should go to an R/C blog instead of RAS but I think that there are many glider drivers that like flying drones.
The Chicago Tribune ran an article today on the FAA's proposed rules for the "use of commercial drones". The full text is below. Highlights for operators are;

TE Probe install? by
[email protected]
I'd like to install a TE probe in the fin of my ASW 19.
What angle should the prob receiver be installed at on the fin?
It looks like most TE probes are installed so the probe is parallel to the horizontal stabilizer.
Is there an optimal spot on the fin to install the TE probe?
Thanks,

New Cobra trailer - - which top? by
Ben[_6_]
So, if you were ordering a new Cobra trailer, would you order a fiberglass top or an aluminum top? For sake of discussion, lets exclude obvious price difference.
I've never seen an aluminum top with insulation. What type of insulation is used and is it worth the 1000 plus euros?
For those having...

spare tail dolly wheel assembly by
[email protected]
I was sick and tired of getting flats on my tail dolly and having to fix this past summer. (Also not interested in solid tires due to the hard ride.) I found this and thought others might be interested. It is one heck of a deal for 20 bucks. Includes tire, tube, hub and axle. Works in a pinch...

Road ID - must have by
Ben[_6_]
IMHO - this is a must have for all sailplane pilots...especially for contest and ridge pilots usually far away from home. Cheap and especially helpful to EMS in critical situations. Interactive model is my choice. Just browse Road ID and become a safer pilot.

Weight or wing loading? by
Jim Lewis[_2_]
Does wing loading have any affect on thermalling ability of a glider (pilot's ability is another topic)?
I am ignoring here the smaller turn radius, and so greater ability of a lighter wing-loaded glider to work narrow-diameter thermals. In a given thermal with a diameter that can be worked with...

Stemme S6-rt by
[email protected]
As a power pilot who lives fairly far from a tow and would rather fly than trailer, I'm pretty much sold on getting a MG. I've looked at LSAs and don't like them, nor the restrictions they come with.
I have already received lots of info from MG doubters and haters, so i don't need to hear that...

Looking For A Decent Discus by
[email protected]
My partner and I are looking for a decent Discus to purchase. We fly with the Pittsburgh Soaring Association in southwestern Pa. We have been looking in earnest for over a year, and are ready to move quickly should the right ship become available.

Glider rental insurance by
David Reed[_2_]
1. I am being asked at an FBO in Colorado to provide my own insurance to
fly their gliders. I used to fly powered at several CO FBOs - the question
never came up. Are things different for gliders?
2. What is the best company to get insurance for gliders only?
Thanks

Those of you flying in the US may have read that as a result of new

GA in the european area.
As a result I have a perfectly serviceable, if oldish, AVComm GL72a 720

Cambridge GPS-NAV Navpoints File by

I am trying to create a Restricted Area Navpoint with an "R" Attribute, ceiling altitude, and radius so my GPS-NAV can alert me if I invade that space.. The old MS-DOS software allowed creation of such a Navpoint but the subsequent Aero Explorer does not. The .dat file structure appears to be:

LS6"C" (17.6) Cockpit Size by
Mike Williams
Can anyone tell me if there is any differance in the cockpit size
(mainly length) between the 15m LS6 and the 17.6m LS6C? From all I've
read there is only mention of the C having a new crash worthy cockpit.
Nothing about the overall size. I've tried on the LS6a and for my
