Hidden costs of owning a Glider by
Doug Snyder
I was prepared for the insurance, the hangar rent for the trailer, the
new relief system, etc.
I must admit that I was not prepared for the new solid surface counter
tops, the new diswasher, the new stove, and the new flooring.
Why didn't you all warn of the reciprocal spending by my spouse...

"Winching in the evening" [movie] by
Peter Millenaar
I noticed one thing: The ASK-21 in your video has "braces" (Dunno
what they
are properly called) inside the canopy that those of my future club
don't
seem to have:

Cobra hydraulic bottle jacks - where to buy? by
[email protected]
I am looking for a source for a replacement bottle jack for a cobra
trailer ramp (yes, I know I should switch to the mechanical jack and
all problems will go away, but I don't want to go down that route
yet). The Torin 2-ton jack that Walmart and Autozone sell is extremely
poorly built, in addition...

Altimeter setting by
Tom[_12_]
As a glider pilot, when are you allowed to use a zero altimeter
setting?
Back in July, I asked the FAA for a legal opinion regarding FAR
91.121. Yesterday, I finally received a response.
There is reason for a continued dialog, and I am continuing the
discussion with the FAA legal...

iPAQ 310 serial by
John Orton[_3_]
Hi
Does anyone have any info on what serial port is connected to the USB on an
iPAQ 310/312.
I am trying to help setup one with XCsoar and feed in Flarm data as well. I
have the Flarm data at the correct voltage levels but I can't work out what
serial port the iPAQ thinks is...

Square Chutes... by

For a little gas on the fire...I'm curious. Besides the P-124 Aviator
by Rigging Innovations:
http://www.rigginginnovations.com/products/aviator.htm or having
Softie put a ram air in one of their harnesses, what other square
emergency rigs are out there as options and which do you 'squares'...

Cold Feet by
Jim[_18_]
Has anybody had experience with these heated soles in a glider: http://gerbing.com/Products/insoles.php ? would it be better to get sock?
Some of these types of products have horrible reviews but these have good reviews on a retailer's website.
Most of the threads on heated socks are old and...

What to do with L-13? by
[email protected]
Our club (NJ - USA) has folded and we still have an L-13 taking up space. Before I call the local scrap yard I thought I'd ask if anyone might be interested in buying it at scrap value with the dreams of getting airworthy again. We also have an open trailer for it that will be available separately...

Battery capacity checker by
Roger Druce
Perhaps someone out in r.a.s land may be able to point me in the direction
of a commercial piece of equipment which would perform the following task.
I would like to be able to charge up a 12 volt (nominal) gell cell battery
and then plug it into a piece of equipment to check its total...

Question about spoilers and pitch stability by
Larry Suter
In his article on avoiding PIO in Grob 103's,
http://www.soaringsafety.org/pilots/ic8.htm
Dean Carswell writes, "the more the airbrakes are closed, the less pitch stability the Grob will have, making a PIO more likely if otherwise mishandled"
Is there a simple explanation why opening the...

Looking for new glider by
Bill Daniels
I've sold my old glider and now I'm in the market for a new one. This time
I'm going the single-place route.
There seems to be a sweet spot in the price/performance curve when looking
at the older open class gliders like the Open Cirrus, Jantar 2 (A or B), LAK
12 etc... I haven't ruled out 15...

Need Powerpoint soaring presentation for Kiwanis group (USA) by
Eric Greenwell
I've agreed to make a 20-30 minute presentation to the local Kiwanis
group about soaring. I'm hoping someone has a suitable Powerpoint
presentation they can email me, so I can adapt it to our local
situation without having to start from scratch. That should be a lot
quicker and easier than coming...
