Oh Gapa Geezer... by
Tony[_5_]
Where are you? Haven't heard much from you this spring but surely you and sidekick Bart are busy getting the PW-2 tuned up and ready to go????
After getting inspired by Gordon and Hugh's big flight to Colorada and then John and Dan's flight from Ohio to New Jersey I decided that the midwest was...

Flying the Sparrowhawk by
Tony[_5_]
Hello RAS,
As some of you know I had a great adventure in August, thanks to Greg Cole's offer to fly his Sparrowhawk at the 13.5 Meter Super Regionals in Moriarty, NM. I wrote up a really long report on the experience for my clubs newsletter and have reprinted it on my SSA Member Blog. You can...

Empty towball Pacific Northwest to ??? by
Tony[_5_]
I'm going to be in Bend, OR on Friday Sept 6 and from there will have an empty towball to basically anywhere in the country. Eventually I need to make it back to Moriarty to pick up the Cherokee and then Wichita to see Leah but I'm willing to go way out of the way if money is involved...

powerflarm not receiving by
Tony[_5_]
I'm in Moriarty flying a Sparrowhawk and am having trouble with me portable. It seems yo be transmitting fine but the only time I've received Farm targets is when I'm on the grid. It is receiving transponder and ADSB traffic just fine.
You may recall that I recently replaced as broken antenna....

PowerFLARM Portable Antenna replacement by
Tony[_5_]
Surely I'm not the only one who has broken the rubber duckie antenna on their Portable. I'm pretty sure it is the ADS-B/Transponder (Blue) one and for my flying thats the most important one to have. I don't see the Portable antenna replacements on any of the US Dealers websites. Anybody have a...

Diamond Distance/Kowbell by
Tony[_5_]
RAS,
Since many of you have been long-time followers of my free distance attempts (that's you, Gapa Geezer), I felt compelled to report on last weekends Kansas Kowbell Klassic. Saturday was the day and there were 4 of us at the field to vie for the Kowbell. Me in Kate the Cirrus, Jerry in his...

Greetings RAS, the Region 10 LPC has had a great practice period the last 3 days and we are ready to start racing tomorrow. Keep an eye on the SSA website for tasks, scores, pictures, and reports. Also watch the SSA Facebook page if you're into that.
We'll have 19 on the grid tomorrow with a great...

having fun in Moriarty by
Tony[_5_]
Kirk signed his last post "having fun in Moriarty". Right he is, even though we've had two no fly days everyone seems to be having a great time. Kirk and Cliff Hilty seemed to have an especially good time last night dancing with my sister!!!!
By the way did you know the Cherokee kid can dance??...

Public Dyneema failure by
Tony[_5_]
It will be interesting if we ever hear what was the cause of the failure of the Dyneema rope failure at the NASCAR race in Charlotte on Sunday. Apparently the rope that drives suspended TV camera across the track was Dyneema. It failed somehow, dropping into the stands, over the fence, and across...

USA - Private Pilot glider tow compensation by
Tony[_5_]
I just came across this letter on another forum. I think we just
discussed this but it turns out that compensation is compensation and
the FAA is not in the business of delineating between "logging time"
compensation and "money"...

Thank You Rules Committee by
Tony[_5_]
I thought I was aware of all the changes being made for 2013 but one slipped past me. I just realized that the rules now say that any logger that makes a Blue V on the OLC is acceptable for regional contest. Awesome!

Haven't heard much from the ol' Gapa Geezer lately but I see on his club website that he is the distinguished, honored winner of "The Tape Measure XC".. Congrats Geezer!!! Only the hardiest of XC pilots could pull of such an achievement, earned "for the shortest flight resulting in an out landing"....

Which FlywithCE position recorder in the US? by
Tony[_5_]
There are two versions of the FlywithCE, 100 and 300. 100 is the original white version which I proudly own. A few guys in our club have 300's, the newer black case with built in USB and battery.
The FlywithCE website says that the 300 is approved in the US as a Position Recorder and the 100 is...

Tasman Vario on Static by
Tony[_5_]
OK, I'm 99% sure that this won't be an issue but everything in the
literature for the Tasman vario's says it only needs connected to a
total energy port. No total energy on the Cherokee II but I suspect
the tasman will work OK hooked to static just like my current Winter
vario. It will just be non...

looking for a wheel brake solution by
Tony[_5_]
Hi everyone, I've been slowly working away on Leah's Cherokee II and
need to come up with a wheel brake solution. Previously it had a
4.10x3.5 tire. The axle diameter is 5/8".
The Cherokee II, per plans, has a piece of aluminum that gets pulled
down over the tire. This is the way my Cherokee II...

USA Regional Sports Class by
Tony[_5_]
Does anyone know of any Regionals offering Sports Class planned for
2011 that take place between the Rockies and the Appalachians?
Currently the closest Regional to Wichita is probably going to be
either Chilhowee (Region 5 West, 15 hr drive) or Caesar Creek (Region
6 South, 13.5 hrs). There is...

individual wing.
starting to look at houses and need to make sure i have enough space
to spend winters sanding and spraying polyurethane. more is better of
