Low energy (full stall) landings: are they safe? by

If one has nearly full spoiler prior to the flare, a 'wheel' landing is almost
impossible and is a perfect setup for a very nice minimum energy landing.
Think about the situation of being in a tail high attitude, well above...

Flarmview versus Flarmview 57 by
[email protected]
I'm interested in purchasing a Flarmcore soon and I'm curious which of the displays would work best. I have a spare 57mm hole in the panel now, so the Flarmview 57 seems to be the simplest installation. I'm curious if having the extra buttons on the original Flarmview make this device easier to...

Questions for SGS 2-33 Operators by
[email protected]
Hi all,
Our club, the Black Forest Soaring Society, is refurbishing our venerable 2-33. She's going to look real nice when we're finished.
During this refurb a couple of questions have come up and so I'm posing them to the group:
First, how many are still operating with the original, war...

Task creation in flywithce by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I just purchased the FlywithCE Flight Recorder and downloaded the Logbook software. I'm trying to create tasks but I am unable to select or create any type of task. The task box says 'Unknown' and I can't change it to say a triangle or O&R. Haven't found any helpful information in the...

Inexpensive portable IGC data recorders by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I'm doing some research for our club. I'm trying to investigate what options are available for 'inexpensive' portable IGC accepted data recorders. Our club would use them for SSA badges and OLC competitions.
We would like them to be portable so we can use them in different club ships,...

Gone West - Gary Knapp by
mhavener
Many in the soaring committee know of Gary Knapp, some firsthand and other by his numerous accomplishments during his soaring career. I’m sad to announce the Gary passed away today, 09/24/2012. I’m glad to say that I am one of those who knew him firsthand.
Gary was passionate about flying, but...

L13 Tailwheel reinforcement by
MHende6388
Has anyone ever come up with a way to strenghten the connection of the brace
(tube)connection ahead of the tailwheel where it connects to the underside skin
joint on the fuselauge? Seems very light for all the abuse it may experience
without some reinforcement plate.
If yes, any...

"Hands off" decent from altitude with spoilers? by
MHende6388
I was taught during wave training that all sailplanes, properly trimmed, when
you let go of the controls, will seek a gentle banked circle to one direction
and maintain that attitude, even in light turbulence.
There must be great variation from one a/c to the next with varied CG and...

Tow plane airspeed vs. glider being towed airspeed? by
MHende6388
Asked a question I could not answer yesterday.....
Why does the towplane indicated airspeed always indicate so much higher than
the glider behind? As much as 10 knots. Consistent with the Pipers, Cessnas and
Grummans.
And yes, compensated for kts. vs. mph.
Thanks,
Michael

How is the Winter soaring in S. UT, S. NV, and N. AZ? by
MHende6388
Looks like the daytime/nightime temp span is statistically even better than the
imfamous Phoenix and parts of FL.
Anyone had experience in Dec, Jan, Feb in this tri-states corner of the
country?
