A New Check on OLC by
Dan Marotta
I just uploaded a flight on OLC and found another check box.Â* Now I must
affirm that the engine off times are valid.Â* Does this net me more money
or hot chicks?

A new direction for an old thread: Crosswind landings by
[email protected]
The last few threads I initiated were preambles to a discussion I don't
think we've sufficiently explored. Those of you who keep track will
recall that I've asked first, whether we are sufficiently well-trained
(Dear Burt), and second, if some of the models we use to understand
flight couldn't...

A new experience by
Andy[_1_]
I've been towing for quite a few years but had a new experience today.
I was towing a pilot new to the Std Cirrus, and who had never towed on
a CG hook before. I expected an "interesting" ride, but he did fine.
That is until release time. I looked in the mirror to see him pull up
into a hard...

A new scam addressed at soaring pilots? by
Greg Arnold[_2_]
I think I should post about a recent scam, in the hopes that a soaring
pilot will not be a victim.
The local gliderport needs a right wing for a Blanik L-23. We posted an
ad on Tim's W & W site. Someone contacted me by email, and said he
had seen the ad. He was in NY, and he had the right wing...

A new threat to Nevada soaring by
bumper
According to the "Nevada Appeal", Hill Air Force Base in Utah is seeking
approval from the FAA to add a 2,400 square-mile training zone for F-16 jets
over White Pine and Elko counties in eastern Nevada. The military already
has control over an estimated half of Nevada air-space, a lot compared...

A new way to launch... by
Jim Logajan
I've wondered why we have to get to altitude to catch thermals to climb.
Why not just locate the thermals when they are the ground or right over the
airfield - wouldn't that save a whole lot of effort? Just pull the glider
to the base of the thermal (with a bit of a running start) and go!
Yes...

A path to an affordable trainer? by
Wallace Berry[_2_]
See: http://makerplane.org/
Just ran across this crowd-sourced campaign to design and build an
open-source airplane. They are shooting for $15,000 US including engine.
I think they could make the airframe for $15k. I have my doubts about a
safe, reliable powerplant AND airframe for anything...

A polar calculation question for you number crunching enthusiasts out there by
ES
I'm trying to use Paul Remde's very handy "Reichmann to Cambridge and SeeYou" spreadsheet to derive some usable SeeYou polar numbers for my Diana-1. But I'm having a heck of a time picking three speed/sink-rate pairs from the data set that result in Max L/D and Best Glide Speed numbers that pass...

A Poll on your weight and balance by
soartech
All sailplane owners,
Please reply with the weight on your tail wheel from your weight and
balance sheet. I will calculate the average after a few days and post
it and the range. Reply on this list or directly to me, either way is
fine.
Thanks.

A Question for ClearNav Users ... by
Jeff Morgan
I have a glider purchase pending inspection and a simple A/D compliance item. It's a nice ship, and the seller has been an absolutely outstanding gentlemen to work with.
The glider is about 95% how I would have done things had I bought it new, but there are few small items - one of which is the...

A Really Good Wave Cloud Pic by
Kemp
While in NZ last year I was struck by how a tagline for NZ is "The Land
of the Long White Cloud", yet I could not find in any tourist spot or
museum a really good, poster size lenticular image. One lady at the
Auckland museum said, "It's a myth!", whereupon I corrected her with
the explanation of...
