Club Management Issue by
Geoffrey Barnes
First off, I'm not directly involved in this situation, but I am trying to
gain an understanding on how other FBOs and flying clubs deal with something
like it.
One of our club members was flying our 182 -- which the club leases from the
two gentlemen who own it -- and had what appeared to be an...

My dad worked for 24 years at UAL-PDX. Laid him off in his 24th year, a
year before he was eligible for full retirement. He was UAL-PDX employee
of the year a couple of times, received all kinds of awards and bonuses...he
received one award for not missing a day of work for something like...

Turbo prop question by
Chris W
I was channel surfing the other day and caught the tail end of some show
about rich people and their planes. Anyway the pilot of this one single
engine turbo prop said there was no mechanical connection between the
prop and engine. How can that be?
I didn't catch the name of the plane. but...

Lancair IV-P lost near Lansing MI by
Roger Halstead
Any one have any information on the IV-P that went down around 2:00 PM
about 30 miles west of Lansing MI on Monday?
There was a story in the paper, but it was a bit short on details.
It was registered to Ward Synthesis Inc. The flight was to be from
Ypsilanti MI to Billings Mont.
Roger Halstead...

Common instruments on small aircraft by
Mxsmanic
Are small GA aircraft often equipped with things like autopilots, GPS
units, and EHSI displays? What about a radar altimeter? The Baron I
fly in simulation is equipped with these (as is the A36), but fancy
instruments are free in simulation, so I'm wondering how likely one is
to have them in real...

Myth: 1 G barrel rolls are impossible. by
Jim Logajan
Myth:
It is impossible to perform a barrel roll such that the pilot feels exactly
1 gee of force perpendicular to the floor of the cockpit. (Barrel roll is
defined here as the maneuver depicted by the definitions and diagrams on
these...

Why airplanes fly by

Fixed-wing aircraft fly because their wings generate lift as they move forward

Cessna sued for skydiving accident. by
C J Campbell[_1_]
The parents of Bryan Jones, a 34 year old Microsoft engineer who was
one of nine skydivers killed in the crash of a Cessna Caravan, are
suing Cessna. The Caravan was returning from Star, Idaho, to Shelton,
Washington. The parents are alleging that the Cessna Caravan was
defective and should not...

Cirrus Killer? Cessna just doesn't get it... by
ET
Reading Avwebs latest addition (avweb.com) I'm reading all about how
Cessna is developing (very hush hush) their "cirrus killer", new high
performance 4 place single. They are being very hush hush about the
whole thing, except for one point; the new design will be a high
wing....
Without debating...

Most Visible Color for Aircraft by
[email protected]
Howdy,
I've been looking all over, and I can't seem to find any discussions on the
relative visibility of various colors for aircraft. I would guess that the
best color might be different when viewed against the sky or the ground.
Any pointers will be welcome,
tom pettit

An Olive Branch by
Jay Honeck
Now that it appears that George Bush has been re-elected with a true
majority of the popular vote (the first president to do so in 16 years), let
me be the first to extend an olive branch to those here who may be
disappointed in the results.
What has made America strong, and allowed our democracy...

Anthony will never admit he's wrong, even though he's asked some of the most
naive and ignorant questions, ones that truly demonstrate his lack of
knowledge and experience.
For the real pilots and students, I suggest joining Pilots of America, a
moderated group. It is what this NG used to be,...

Serengeti Sunglass Parts by
RST Engineering
As luck would have it, I tore the right paddle from its mount on my
Serengeti glasses while loading the airplane for departure. Not a chance I
can get them fixed by tomorrow morning, but when I get back does anybody
know of a good place to get repair parts for Serengetis?

drug/alcohol testing policy: effective? by
gatt
Casual debate he
Something like .1% of the pilots randomly tested for alcohol and drugs (one
was .5%, I believe) tested positive in 2004. That's one in a thousand. As
a result of this percentage, the random test rate will stay at 25% for drugs
and something similar for alcohol.
Meanwhile,...

Overweight takeoff / flight by
Koopas Ly
Howdy again,
After reading NTSB reports that attribute the cause of the accident to
exceeding the airplane's maximum takeoff weight, I began wondering
about the effects of an overweight takeoff within C.G. limits.
Specifically, what would I have to do differently when flying an
airplane that's...
