Gliders in the Grand Canyon by
Mxsmanic
If there were no airspace restrictions, would it be possible/safe to fly
gliders in the Grand Canyon? There's not much of a place to land in the
canyon, of course, but I don't know if there are thermals or something (?)
that would allow a glider to climb back up out of the canyon after...

teterboro airport --> New Jersey Transit train into NYC? by
Dave
has anyone used the Teterboro New Jersey Transit train station after
landing at TEB airport? If you go to any of the FBOs along the West
side of runway 1-19, the train station is just a mile or so further to
the West along Rt. 17 and Williams Ave. The trip time is approx. 30
minutes into the city...

Errors accessing FAA's Pilotweb by
Mxsmanic
Is anyone else getting SSL security errors when trying to access the FAA Web
site's Pilotweb pages? I tried to look up TFRs today and got an error message
saying the certificate issuer was unknown. One URL that does this is:

Diamond DA-40 with G-1000 pirep by
C J Campbell
I got a demo flight in a Diamond DA-40 equipped with the Garmin G-1000 glass
cockpit this morning. We departed IFR from Tacoma Narrows and flew west for
some maneuvers. This plane was the second one out of the factory with the
G-1000. I had a difficult time maintaining my altitude; the altitude...

Run-in with Chicago Center by
Jay Honeck
So I'm on my way home from Green Bay today (where Monday night my son and I
saw his first pro-football game, and my first game at Lambeau Field), and
the weather is fairly crappy.
By noon conditions had risen to VFR along our route of flight (KGRB to
KIOW -- Iowa City, IA), with ceilings in Green...

Just got off the phone with NWPilot, calling me from a wake (at Hooters) for
a fellow ferry pilot who went down today in the North Atlantic, 50 miles

How does a Prop Governor work? by
Felix
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can explain exactly how a prop governor
works for a constant speed prop system? All I know is that the engine
Oil pushes a piston in the prop hub that twists the prop to the
appropriate angle.
Thanks,
Felix

Primary training in a Hi Perf complex acft by

Total stream-of-consciousness post here...
Anbody learn to fly in a high performance complex aircraft? Bonanza,
Saratoga, 182RG and the like? I know it's possible, just wonder how
much longer it'd take for a student to master something with
significant power and prop & gear controls. (I did all my...

Procedure for calculating weight and balance by

The manual for my aircraft gives figures for MOM and ARM at various
stations, but it doesn't actually explain how to use these to
calculate weight and balance. I want to place the load so that the
aircraft neither pitches down nor pitches up. Can someone provide me
with a pointer to an...

I am confused by this practice commercial nav question. ( at least I
am confused by the answer in the book which was b. but I think both a
and c are correct), but I appreciate some other opinions.
Day 1 Altimeter reads elevation of 1390 feet with 1013 HPa set on
subscale
