Full Stall Landing? by
Danny Dot
In my opinion the use of the term "Full Stall Landing" is a misnomer. At
least for me the term "Extreme Slow Flight Landing" would be better. I
don't put the wings into a full stall before touch down when I land as slow
as possible. I put the airplane on the edge of the stall and fly it to...

"Proceed on Course" = "Right turn approved"? by
Bob Chilcoat
I took of from Reading, PA this morning from RW 31 with an on-course heading
of 105. As I was cleared for takeoff, I was told "Cleared for takeoff,
proceed on course". In the past, they've also added "Right turn approved".
This time they didn't. I was concerned that I hadn't been cleared for...

CBS "News" strikes AGAIN by

Tonight the CBS Evening "News" ran a story about the apparently
drunk pilot idiot who busted Philadelphia's airspace, buzzed a variety
of things and apparently was able to land his Cherokee despite be
hammered.
The CBS twist on the story? "We told you about the dangers...

Trying to Fly by
AliR
Hi everyone,
I am an instrument pilot who hasn't been able to fly but once every 2 months
in the last year or so, because of the fact that I got married, and have a
little one.
I am looking for a place or organization where I can volunteer my time as a
pilot, not have to pay too much for the...

The insane spitfire video clip by
gatt
If you haven't seen this yet give it a look. It's a Spitfire practically
mowing the lawn during a wheels-up flyby at the camera. WTF?!
This is rated R for (wholly appropriate) use of strong language.

Announcing THE book on airshow flying by

For those of you interested in air shows, both military and civilian, , and
whose interest goes WAY beyond the norm and into the very guts of the
subject; I'd like to announce that the consummate book on this subject "Zero

Letter at end of flight number? by
Laura
I'm tracking a flight tonight between Boston and Paris. The plane was
delayed on the earlier flight leaving Paris, so of course BOS-CDG is
delayed too. But here's something strange: It seems that the original
flight number was cancelled and a new flight plan was filed with a
letter suffix. So...

Santa Monica Showdown: City v FAA by
Larry Dighera
Perhaps the city should not have permitted housing development at the
ends of the runway; more suitable zoning might have been industrial or
commercial. Rather than crippling the airport, perhaps a more
equitable solution would be for the city to purchase those homes they
believe to be in danger,...

More questions on VFR flight following. by
Tman
OK, if i call up approach when airborne and ask for VFR flight following,
they'll want to know where I'm going. If i'm following a semi-complex
route, on V airways and going from this VOR to that, perhaps turning at an
intersection to a different V airway, do they really want to know that? Or...

I'm going to "Laser" a pilot. by
Happy Dog
Hello FBI surveillance software?
Anyway, I am now in possession of one brand new "Jasper" DPSS 5mw laser from
bigha.com. That's the same laser used in the recent media hyped incidents
at KTEB. I'm going to test the claims that pilots can be visually impaired
empirically. (Guess who the pilot...

Do we need the SR-71? by
C J Campbell
One of the most important lessons, I think, coming from the war on terrorism
is that poor intelligence is becoming very costly. Satellites are
predictable and are unable to loiter over an area, while drones can cover
only relatively small areas. From Desert Shield up to now we have been
basically...

Landing on a sloping runway with different wind velocities by
Tony Cox
Here's a problem which seems to have a non-trivial solution.
At least, I've not been able to find a definitive answer to it, but
what do I know??
Suppose one wishes to land at an airport with a runway
that slopes at X degrees. The wind -- assumed to be directly
aligned with the runway -- is Y...
