It seem that the safety finish was rejected based on the revised
score sheet. What are the details? Regards Udo |

Regards Udo Several pilots lost speed points because they were below the 1000ft AGL minimum at the edge of the safety finish cylinder. All flights claiming a safety finish are currently under review. A new scoresheet will be posted when available. 2c |

There is no requirement to be at 1000 feet at the edge of the five-mile
safety finish cylinder. The requirement is to have at least one fix inside the cylinder that is at or greater than a 20:1 slope to the finish point at the field. The pilot can then retreat to a safer landing point of his/her choosing. The speed from the most favorable fix in the cylinder to the finish line is a fixed 60 mph. KS wrote in message oups.com... ![]() It seem that the safety finish was rejected based on the revised score sheet. What are the details? Regards Udo My mistake. Its the 20:1 requirement that is being revisited. Actually the glide slope is not 20:1 it is 26.4:1. (200 ft per mile) What happened on Day 6 of the Sports Nationals was that the version of Winscore used at the contest did not automatically support the safety finish rule. The scorer had to perform some manual steps to generate scores and during that process some altitudes were misinterpreted and finishes were incorrectly given to 3 contestants on the preliminary scoresheet. The logs were then more carefully reevaluated by the scorer and also by an updated version of Winscore. Both evaluations showed that 3 contestants, while within the 5 mile horizontal bounds of the safety cylinder, were below the required glide slope. The times and distances of the remaining contestants who received safety finishes will be rescored after a clarification of the safety finish rules. Guy Byars |
