I also recall that the FE had tuned a radio to approach, and we heard at one point EWR ask BA to slow to 180. He politely replied that he needed to maintain at least 220 on the approach for fuel economy. The one that flew into Dulles (IAD) on the 14th requested "190 minimum" until 3 mile final.
