Good Afternoon
Having seem some postings on here this seems like a good place to come to ask about recording flights in a semi hands off manner and an affordable one too. So far i've had passengers with cameras record two of my takeoffs and landings and i liked it and it helped illustrate what was happening, but i'd like to be able to do the same while flying and letting it run while I busy myself on the flying part. Some times in some flights i'd like to set 1 or 2 cameras up with an audio in fom the intercom. Ideally i'd like to set it up so i dont need to do the shooting and i can just fly the plane. Long term i'm looking towards tutorial type vids and maybe use them to quickly explain things I do when I fly when i'm on the ground. (both for showing non pilots and possibly long term as a tool as a flight instructor) Ideas and feedback are welcome |

After two weeks, I would confer the proof is in the absence. ![]() Next time, tell everyone you are a sim pilot or act like a troll and request information about something obnoxiously stupid. The following link contains some photos and some brief comments on mounting of GoPro HD video cameras externally: http://www.vimeo.com/18855219 I'm impressed with the video quality; have no first hand experience trying to video any of my flights though. Interesting coincidence - I believe the airport (Deer Valley) in that video is also home to "Chris AKA (Dude)" who has been posting links to Youtube videos of his pilot training to the alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim group. Here's one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASKdt7iMNoE Somewhere on a.g.m.f-s he mentions the camera he used - some very cheap (under $30) item. |

Here is a link to a video made just recently on how I do it and you can check out my channel for more videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIIb1r2LZ4c http://www.youtube.com/user/cholubaz?feature=mhum my channel Cheers, Chris |

Thank you very much for the feedback
I'm honestly surprsed there were ways to do it that inexpensively and you are shaing ideas i had never though of with regards to getting the multiple angles and an over the nose and a from behind angle and all. I'm actually hoping to make some vids both to explain a lot of the things i do and try and show people WHY I fly by general aviation. Brent "Chris AKA (Dude)" wrote in message ... Brent, Your reason is my exact reason for creating videos of my flying and WHY I rather fly GA from convienence to the "room with the view". http://www.youtube.com/user/BeechSundowner My channel contains the basics from VFR air work (stalls and falls), emergency descent procedure I learned in my Sundowner to the complexities of light gun work, instrument approaches down to minimums and just plain having fun "cloud surfing" and playing in the canyons of cumulus fields under IFR clearances. Many of these I have posted in these newsgroups in the past. To answer your question, like Chris, I did a video of my camera / audio setup that you can see at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctu0PxNhxSY A little less complex then Chris's but worked for me :-) since my focus of my time was to fly a plane. Chris's setup will pay big time dividends when he begins his IA training as compared to my setup. |

I would rather put the money into flying than a $500 camera setup. Maybe after I have my ticket I will sell off and upgrade my setup. IMHO, put the money to flying. What you have is absolutely outstanding considering the method of delivery via You Tube. If you wanted to upgrade your setup for local or offline viewing, that would be different but I really don't find it that much more enjoyable viewing experience with HD or high resolution when 640 * 480 meets my needs. Plus the extra time it takes to stream is more aggravating to me waiting for high rez videos to buffer. I also find the encoding done by You Tube degrades the video compared to local play back. I wish when I started my IA training I had something you haave in an affordable way as was like close to $500 per camera or more when I started 8 years ago and not nearly as good as what you have now! I love your panel view and that's where I say it will pay dividends for your IA training (and afterwards). I am really looking forward to continued flight lessons and getting my instrument one day too. Ill probably fly for a year and then start it. Good plan as that is exactly what worked for me :-) Enjoy the fantasy of flight without pressure plus it gives you plenty of time to hone in your skills for holding altitude and heading along with having fun doing XC's. Just make sure you get an instructor that isn't afraid of touching a cloud when you cross that bridge |
