Hey Guys,
Aero Club Albatross is in the middle of restoring its LS3 trailer and we're looking for a solar powered vent. Any suggestions? Thanks a million, Daniel |

Daniel- Sorry. The link I posted was for a passive, wind powered vent. I put a Nicro Solar Vent on my trailer about eight years ago and it is still merrily spinning away in the 300+ days per year of New Mexico sun.

The one common mode of failure for all of them was that the clear resin covering the solar panels turned hazy-yellow, similarly to what the head-light covers of later model cars look like after a few years in the south. Apparently, that resin was not the most UV-resistant. One of these vents came with a clear plastic cover which protected the panel from rain. That worked well until it too turned yellow. However, cleaning it with some soft-scrub compound cleared it up again. Finally, that clear cover showed crazing and stress cracks. UV and plastics just aren't friends, I guess. A SS-version with a glass cover would be nice. Uli |

The older Nicro 'Day and Night' vents were great, but the motor in the newer ones doesn't last long and isn't any sort of standard part. I'm considering the Flettner TCX2. Industrial grade passive vent, with a lifetime warranty. https://www.inlad.com/flettner-rotar...2?page_id=1157 Wonder if the black vent is more UV resistant than the white one, like the wheel chocks from Cobra? If it's a good clear cover, it has a UV spray on it.
If not, sand it to clear (as low as 140 wet up to 1500 wet) then use a UV cureable to last 5+ years. I do plastic headlight refinishes, so I have a background. Toothpaste, and others, last a few months......so it goes....... |
