Default See & Avoid - Bonanzas to Oshkosh

I just had this pointed out to me by a friend, and it's worth noting:

If you're planning on arriving in OSH this coming Saturday, not only
will you miss the fly-in pool party in Iowa City (see:
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/iowa_city_pool_party.htm), but you might
end up in a perpetual hold around Rush Lake due to over 100 Bonanzas
arriving, en masse, between 2 and 3 PM in a flight from Rockford, IL.

Since these things don't always happen on a tight schedule -- and
there will be a giant slug of folks who have been holding trying to
get in immediately after the B2OSH folks -- you might say that
anywhere from 1 till 5 PM is a "bad" time to arrive.

Unless you *enjoy* the hold around Rush Lake, plan your arrival for
another time.

I've done the caravan arrival before. In truth its a much more
efficient way to get large number of planes in at the same time. Since
it only works when everyone can fly at the exact same speed (and stage
at a nearby airport), it really only works for the type groups. We
were also required to have an FAA employee ride in the lead aircraft.
If the carvans did not exist and everyone had to use the standard
arrival, there would be a lot more waiting for everyone.

It's limited to 100 airplanes. In order to participate this year you
had to attend a formal formation flying clinic so there may not be the
full 100 birds this year. The cessna guys started a formation fly in
last year, except they don't know what they're doing.

I've flown with the Mooney caravan. We had to attend a 2 hour class
before we departed presented by the FAA. I've since heard that they
were requiring previous experience in the caravan on a CFI sign off
that they could hold an airspeed and follow directions.

So if a group of whales is a pod,
and a group of geese is a flock,
would this be a "Cloud of Cessnas"

I thought a group of geese was a gaggle.

A flock of crows is a "murder", an isolated group of trees, a
"corpse', and my favorite: a gathering of school administrators is a
"lack" (of principals).

Any others?

"copse", not "corpse".
