16 year old steals a plane by
Jeff
This happened last night at an airport near us. Stupid mistake for a kid
who dreams of flying one day.
There is a link to the full video on the page too.

Checklist Mnemonics by
Casey Wilson
Whilst wandering around the cyber-wastelands the other day, I came
across http://socal.pilotinside.com/tools.asp. The site has lots of good
stuff there, including a 29-page PDF file describing maneuvers for
the C-172. Problem is, it refers to a couple checklist mnemonics I am not
familiar with....

The treadmill is irrelavant people by
Flyingmonk
The treadmill is irrelevant; it is the relative wind that matters.
Whether you are standing on solid ground or on a treadmill, if you have
enough of a head wind, you will be airborne period.

New style emergency exits by
Michelle
After spending about 10 hour in the exit rows of aluminum tubes over the
last week I noticed something new. They 737-800 has a different design
than the older style overwing hatches. This is more door like. It has
hinges and opens outward. You no longer have to bring the door in and
throw it out of...

Pilot Compensation - FAR 61.113 by
CAE
Hi All,
Here's a question for all the FAR/AIM experts:
Each year our childrens' school has a charity auction to raise money
for various events, services, and equipment. My wife had the idea that
I could donate a one hour flight, which could be auctioned for the
benefit of the school.
I'm...

Aviation Accident - No "Excellent Pilot" Mention by
Judah
Surprisingly, this article doesn't mention that the pilot was "an excellent
pilot with a clean history" or anything similar.
Perhaps he was reckless and had a history of accidents, but then I would
suspect that would make for interesting news as...

Fate of the Wingman by
Flyingmonk
Just got this from one of my Lao buddies who's an American GI stationed
in Thailand at the moment. LOL
His story...
To start with, the mission briefing was completely erroneous. At no
time before take off was I informed that this would be a live fire
operation and deep in hostile enemy...

Lie to FAA, Get a Grant by
John R
South Carolina airport department knew that it couldn't legally get FAA
grant money (that's your aviation fuels tax $$$) for maintenance
equipment and buildings, so it claimed it was "snow" removal equipment
and "snow maintenance" buildings that they needed. The deceit was
justified of course...

Guess who is back? by
Bob Moore
You won't believe it, but one of our former resident loonies,
Douglas Eagleson just poped up over at r.a.m.n with the
following post:
"I am an avocate of adding afterburners to the A-10 for just this
reason. A long duration of coverage is the defensive role.
A five hour rotation is possible for...

Lowrance to introduce XM weather at SNF '06? by
Jay Honeck
Over on the Cherokee Pilots Association "Cherokee Chat", a guy has posted
(at my inquiry) that Lowrance *is* still planning to introduce satellite
weather to work with their excellent 2000c aviation GPS.
This is the second "verification" (from an anonymous source who supposedly
"knows" someone --...

My first passenger by
Icebound
Of course I had to pay him to get into the airplane, but when he got out an
hour and a half later, he shook my hand, signed the back of my Student
Permit, took some trophy pictures for me, and officially stated that the
Government was satisfied that I can pilot an airplane.
I haven't been around...
