FAA's Answer to ATC Retirement Bubble Staffing Shortfall by
Larry Dighera
Isn't a policy that reduces staffing, and then authorizes mandatory
overtime (with its federally mandated time-and-a-half pay rate) just a
bit irrational?
UNION: FAA "STAFFING TO BUDGET"
The FAA seems intent on challenging long-established norms in
terms of staffing levels,...

Where is everyone? by
Jay Honeck
In the mid-60s and early 70s people also did not have multiple cell phones
(one for each family member), cable/satellite TV, satellite radio, "starter"
homes the size of small castles, home entertainment centers, or 2 brand new
cars (one an SUV) in the driveway. Today these are all looked...

Apparently he can't get the nose gear down. Probably will have to land

GPS, Wx for Tablet PC by
Wiz
Hi, all:
I have a great little Fujitsu touchscreen tablet-type PC and a
Bluetooth GPS receiver. I'm considering acquiring software to use the
tablet as a moving map and Wx device, just buying a Garmin 396 or 496,
or using Flightmaster and Copilot on my Palm Treo and doing without
weather. I've...

First Long Cross-Country as a Pilot -- Any tips? by
Jay Honeck
Any tips to ease the flight? Good tips for fuel consumption savings?
Tips for taming my 2-year old for the flight?
Mary and I have been doing long x-country flights with our kids since
birth (they're 13 and 16 now), so we've done this a few times.
1. At age 2, they probably won't keep the...

Prop sync and noise in twins by
Mxsmanic
I note that the Baron (and presumably other twins) has a prop sync switch that
somehow synchronizes the prop speeds on both engines. From recordings I've
heard of the interior noise of the aircraft, it does sound as though props
that are just slightly out of sync can produce a very irritating...

high winds in Palm Spring by
Blair
I'm a low timer (110 hours) scheduled to fly from Palo Alto to the
Bermuda Dunes in the Palm Springs area Thursday afternoon.
Unfortunately, I see there is Wind Advisory in effect from 11 am
Wednesday to 9 PM PDT Thursday and forecast winds of 20 to 30 mph from
the northwest. It'd be one thing if...

Something That Snuck Under The Radar-Proposed End of TWEB. by
sheamon
Unfortunately, we have sent a comment to the NWS to keep the TWEB
routes in place. I work for Flight Service in the Northwest and we use
these local forecasts as much as possible. Of course one forecast is
always doing better than another, but for mountainous routes and
specialized geography,...
