Paul A. Schweizer, 1913-2004 by
Peter W. Smith
Soaring pioneer Paul A. Schweizer passed away August 18 after a long
illness. Paul was renowned as a sailplane builder, competition pilot,
author, historian, lecturer and global spokesman for soaring. He was
born in 1913, just two years after Orville Wright made the world's
first soaring flight in...

L-13 by
brien
Not sure what to do with our L-13 Blanik it's the one with the crunched nose
that was listed on e-bay. Thought by now someone would have bought it for
parts or something. We will probably start parting it out, it has the
swiveling tail wheel and all the instruments anyone interested in parts...

Fredricksburg # 711 reporting by
TomnKeyLargo
I showed up in Fredricksburg on Sunday mornin and pulled the weather all the
way from Uvalde. Like it rained most of the way. I believe it rained so hard on
Monday that the Frio river overflowed and caused part of the interstate to shut
down. Anyway, they were not flying and I left on Sunday...

My Nimbus 2C landing gear struts are on the bench while I wait for a part.
How do these things work? Is there any maintenance that can be done on
them?

Renewed Glider Interiors by
Roy Bourgeois
Friends:
I am soliciting advice for a winter project to renew the interior of my =
ship (Nimbus 3) - which is getting a bit tattered.
1) Is there a good source for cloth side panels with pockets? Or, if =
they are to be custom made, what types of businesses make them?
2) What is the best...

Personal bests and records climbing in Calif by
Caracole
This week is IT.
In case you hadn't noticed, it's summer, and the soaring's HOT.
Here at least. Monday had a 900 km flight, Tuesday a late launch
and early finish got a quick 400 km (for a girl, dry).
Today, Mark Grubb flew 1100 km out of Tehachapi - yo-yo and landed
Cal City just before...

BGA and licensing by
Mark James Boyd
I saw on the BGA website the BGA changed the spin training
requirements. No more required low altitude
spins. Good job, guys. I'm glad they changed it.
I'm over 4000 miles away and I was cringing...
On another note, the site seems to indicate that 20 flights
minimum are required to solo, but...

Pocket Nav NMEA sentences by
George B.
I'm trying to get a Compaq Aero 1530 with PocketNav to receive NMEA
output from a Colibri logger so that it can display the moving map.
When I tried it for the first time in flight the PocketNav message was
"No NMEA Data" and it went into simulator mode. Can anyone tell me
what sentences to select...
