Engine Out Landing. Big Deal? by
soartech
I almost snickered a bit after watching this "real life" story about
how a pilot had to land his plane after loosing engine power at 500
feet. After 35 years of flying gliders this looks normal to me. Maybe
power planes are really hard to fly. This guy has 4700 hours and he
overshot his turn onto...

Standard Cirrus and Deturbulator Project by
OxAero[_2_]
1. The Standard Cirrus was not chosen for Deturbulator experiments. It
was what we had to work with. *That's all. *Turns out, the stability
of top surface reattachment point worked to our benefit.*
2. Since going my own way with this work, I have dismantled the parts
of the original configuration...

Hydraulic brake problems by
Dick[_3_]
Hydraulic brake problems. The disc brake on my D2b has provided only
very limited stopping ability for a year or so now. When attempting
to put on the brakes the brake handle moves all the way back to the
stick grip. We have repeatedly attempted to eliminate air in the
system by pumping .4 fluid...

Solenoid valve for creating a tail ballast dump system...Lak17a by
Sean Fidler
I need advise or recommendations on what solenoid valve's (type, model) would work best for creating a tail ballast dump mechanism. My glider, unfortunately, did not come with a mechanical release. My glider is in the shop getting an evacuation vent and break away tail wheel so the time is right...

Amazing 2-33A Records TN by
olddogcirrus
Sarah Kelly-Arnold and Rachel Flem had an amazing flight in a lowly
2-33A on Thursday. It appears they may have set 12 new TN records and
3 national records with this flight.
I think Sarah deserves more of a medal for sitting in the back seat of
the 2-33 for the four hours plus.. Anyway,...

would run in such an environment? Is the PlayBook daylight readable?

Another altitude diamond in Minden by

SoaringNV claimed another altitude diamond today with a nice flight to
26,000+ feet. Nenad Isakovic, originally of Serbia but currently
living in the UAE, came to Minden last week to stay for as much as 10
days, following our advice that this wave season should offer him at
least one decent wave...

IS29D2 - Life Limits? by

I remember about 15 yrs ago a discussion on "30 yr calendar life
limits" on the ISR Brasov gliders. Primarily it was concerning the 2
seat IS28B2. I do believe there was eventually an extension approved
by the factor after detailed inspection and replacement of some parts.
I cannot find any online...

different instruments that calculate wind information while in flight.
I use a GPS driving a PDA running LK8000 (I don't use the new true

getting wind information...

Accident Prevention by

Accident Prevention
Flying gliders is dangerous. The “Accident Prevention Manual For
Glider Pilots” written in 1992 has been an important and effective
tool to train pilots to fly safer. The difficulty is getting pilots
to read the manual. The relatively light sales of this book, and the
fact...
