Dick Johnson test reports by
Martin Gregorie
I notice that the collection of Dick Johnson Test Flight Evaluations that
used to be available to all on the SSA website has vanished. I've tried a
Google search but can't find the collection.
Can anybody tell me what happened and where I might be able to find online
copies of the test...

Portable Radio by
Waduino
Is anyone up on the latest Vertex 150 and ICOM A6 models?
Except for the batteries (1100mAh NiCd on the Vertex and 1650 NiMH on the
ICOM) they seem similar. The Vertex is less expensive.
Thanks.

LS-1C canopy mod by
Brad
A friend has an LS-1C that we are planning on completly restoring. One
of the planned changes is to add a 1 piece canopy. Anyone out there
ever done this?
Also, we are looking for front hinge canopy parts and latching hardware
from wrecked gliders that we can use for the project.
Thanks,
Brad

Towing w LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) by
Jeffrey Banks
Towing w LSA (FAA defined Light Sport Aircraft)?
Is anyone doing this?
Without a horsepower limit for Light Sport Aircraft it seems that a
small airframe and a big engine might be an ideal towplane.
The GW limit of 1320 lbs (599kg) and max cruise speed of 120knots do
not seem restrictive for...

Aerotow - learning and teaching by
[email protected]
This is a spin-off from the post from the frustrated newbie who was
challenged with flying the aerotow on his first lesson.
I no longer ask first-timers (including airplane pilots) to fly the
glider on aerotow - not until they get some stick-time in free flight,
and a sense of where "level" is. ...

Phoebus B Flight Manual by
AFSax
I'm wondering if any Phoebus owners out there could tell me where I can
get an English copy of the Phoebus manual. I believe it's the same
book for all three models A, B, and C. At least the German one I have
is. Thanks.

Teaching the aerotow by
Paul Moggach
I'm sorry, but I'm with the others that simply delay
teaching the aerotow until the students have a firm
idea of how to turn the aircraft using co-ordinated
use of the stick and rudder, and know how to judge
that the aircraft is in straight and level flight.
Any early notion that you turn or...

Gliding club in Innsbrook by
[email protected]
Hi,
Some (maybe many) years ago I flew at a gliding club in Innsbrook
adjacent to the main Airport (the gliding club had to synchronise
take-offs with the Airport).
I cant seem to find the gliding club on the internet (and I did not put
it in my log book).
Does anyone know the name of the club...

NTSB: USAF included? by
Larry Dighera
Dear Mr. Larkin,
Thank you for your input regarding this civil/military MAC that
occurred in Warner Springs, California on April 20, 1986. Because
your original text was formatted as part of the quoted text you
included, it was difficult for me to determine which was which, but I
hope I got all...

The first $100 tow... by
Paul
If you have a Pawnee or a Tug with enough grunt why not dual tow?
Guys at my club here in NZ do it on a regular basis on days when a long tow
is needed to get away. Split the cost.

Electronic horizon? by
Martin Gregorie
I recently saw the write-up on the Stratomaster AHRS-2 system. Its
American uncertified kit that shows a ribbon compass, T&S and artificial
horizon on a single LCD display that fits a standard 80mm panel hole.
It only uses 200 mA at 12v, is light and costs about GP 100 ($US 180) more
than an...

LS4 trim by
bagmaker
Flying a club LS-4a last weekend, trying to trim for a sandwich break I couldnt get a smooth speed. I figure this is a balance issue, as we would rise to 65 knots then fall back to 45 then up again. I would be 95kg clothed, no extra gear. I tried different altitudes with the same result, although...

Spectra cord for ground launch by

I have been doing research on cord/rope in the USA. Is there any
consensus on what to use for auto tow or winch launching?
I am finding prices of about $0.23/foot to $0.40/foot for 3/16"
double braid with breaking strength of 1950 pounds depending on the
type of outer braiding. =BC" with 3150...

Ventus 2C manual typo? by
[email protected]
Any V2C drivers out there --
I'm reading the "Use of wing flaps" section of my V2C manual and there
is a table (page 4.5.3.3) with flap settings (L, +2/+1, -1, -1, -2, S,
S1) in the second column and speeds to fly for various gross weights in
columns to the right.
The first column is the "Use of...
