Vortex Generators on 182 tow plane??? by
Cookie
Anybody have any experience and / or advice on putting vortex generators on our Cessna 182 (swept tail) tow plane? Do they actually do much? Or are they hocus-pocus?
We often tow with 15 to 20 knot, gusty, direct cross winds.
Also, on take off, we have a paved taxiway crossing our grass...

Pilatus B4 canopy install question by
Cookie
Anybody out there familiar with the B4 canopy to frame attachment method?
We have a "new to us" B4 in our club, and the canopy has become detached from the aluminum frame along the right side. It appears to have been glued in place.
A previous B4 we owned had the canopy attached to the rails by...

We just got a used LX4000 "as removed"...
Does anybody have a wiring diagram, or pin-out diagram for the LX4000?
We can find the user manual online...but not the install manual.
Thanks,

Looking for a glider in or near Germany by
[email protected]
Hi
We are looking for a 15m or Open Class glider to compete in the pre-
worlds at Lusse in July. Unfortunately the glider we thought we had
arranged fell through. Preference is for a Schempp-Hirth glider if
possible.
Can anyone help? We can offer a swap here in Australia with use of
our Ventus...

BJ-4 Information? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Someone at the gliderport brought in a 1969 version of "Joy of
Soaring". It was fascinating to flip through the pages. Many things
are the same then as now.
There were several pictures of gliders; Diamant, Standard Libelle,
1-26, 2-33, Sisu, Skylark 4, Dart, Kestrel - all of which I have heard
of...

Cambridge 302 Tones Described by
ContestID67[_2_]
When I purchased the Cambridge 302 I was somewhat bewildered by the
different tones that the 302 can make during flight - other than lift/
sink that is. Once I flew with the 302 for a while the various tones
started to make sense. You can listen to lift, sink, speed to fly,
gear warnings, slow...

Pilot Events Mandated by IGC? by
ContestID67[_2_]
I just read the following in the Cambridge 302 manual (http://
www.cambridge-aero.com/manuals/302_v3.pdf - page 7)
"...used to log Pilot EVents (PEV) in the flight log as
mandated by the IGC."
I have never heard that Pilot Event logging was *MANDATED* by the
IGC.
I searched and found...

Cambridge 302 Gear/Airbrake Warning - How to Test? by
ContestID67[_2_]
I am in the midst of a project to install a gear/airbrake warning
system on my glider based on the built-in capability of my Cambridge
302. This system is better than the simple "airbrakes open, gear up"
warning system (http://www.wingsandwheels.com/pdf/gear%20warning.pdf)
as it also alerts the...

Aviation Oxygen Locations in Chicago Area? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Anyone have an address in the Chicago area to obtain aviation grade
oxygen? I have a friend who is having a heck of a time finding it.
You would think that some of the smaller airports handling executive
jets would have it.
Thanks, John

Contest Grid Spacing? by
ContestID67[_2_]
We have a small informal "contest" going on this weekend at Sky
Soaring outside of Chicago (http://skysoaring.com) and are laying out
the grid for about 20 gliders. The even gliders are in one line and
odd gliders in the other. We are about to start painting numbers on
the turf and said to...

FAI IGC File Name Decoding by
ContestID67[_2_]
A while ago I created an Excel Spreadsheet to decode IGC file names
into something more useful to the average mind.
I just updated it to include all the new manufacturers in the past few
years and a number of other small changes.

FCC License? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Maybe this has come up before, if so I appologize. I know that we
have had a thread on the need for an airport to have an FCC license.
This came up when one of the gliderports was fined for having an
expired license. This was useful, and timely, information for other
glider ports.
So there are...
