Refinishing ASW24 by
[email protected]
I have been working on the horizontal stab and the two elevators for the past two weeks. I have never seen such difficult gel coat to remove. I am no rookie at gel coat, have done many boats and a bit of glider repair, but this is a beast to remove. It took me six full days to remove the gel coat...

What percentage have a power pilot license? by
[email protected]
Hi all, I decided to take the plunge (no pun intended) and start
flying. I thought about going straight for a private glider license.
But, I do have the option of going for the powered pilot license first
- then the glider license second. Any thoughts? How many here have
both? Did you get your...

Kestrel DG200 canopy mod. by
Bruce
OK
Anyone out there with experience in converting the T59D / 401 Kestrel
canopy from the awful removable thing with a hoop exactly where you want
to watch the tug, to a single piece.
Apparently there is an approved mod using a DG200 canopy.
Second question is - would there be anyone with such...

Elevator Turbulator tape question by
JJ Sinclair
I'm planning on trying turbulator tape (zig-zag, probably) on the
horizontal tail of my Ls-6, in front of the elevator. Anyone have any
experience doing this?
I added .4 mm ziz-zag to to the elevator of my LS-7 and it changed the stall
dramatically. Before adding it, the ship stalled like an...

Low pass by
Cookie
After giving it just a little thought...
Not to deflate some of those egos out there...but.....the low pass is
a maneuver requiring no particular pilot skills whatsoever! I mean
it's...go fast...slow down...turn around......duh...not particularly
dangerous.....I mean anybody can do...

Recommendations for cataract surgery lenses for flying by
teck48[_2_]
I'm due for cataract surgery. Any good or bad experiences with lens implants for flying? Eye doc is recommending multi focus lenses (as opposed to mono focus). And a slightly different lens in each eye. Both multifocal, but dominant eye implant optimized for distance. Anyone have any experience?...

Trig TT21 + TN72 TABS ADS-B Out Install working great.... by
Darryl Ramm
I just helped set up the Ramy Yanetz ASG29's TRIG TT21 transponder with a TN72 GPS Source to use as a TABS ADS-B out system. That along with PowerFLARM in his glider makes for a pretty capable overall traffic awareness/collision avoidance system.
Here is a screenshot of my portable Stratux ADS-B...

Lubricant for spar pins by
Jonathan St. Cloud
Did a search of RAS and all the threads were quite old, so I thought I would ask what lubricant do you use when assembling your glider? I have noticed that the lube that comes with Schleicher gliders seems to have more friction and lube. Of course there is the old standby of white lithium, but...

Libelle by

So this is a bit of a strange story.
Up for sale last week on Ebay was this old lady:

Using a nook for xcsoar by

Rob recently documented his nook installation from his glider he

He hooked it up to his cai302 via serial and patches in the power from the aircraft battery.
I think this is the most cost effective way for a sunlight readable...

THIS is the cockpit display tech we need by
Bill D
http://rdd.me/ryoliosm I doesn't matter how 'smart' our gadgets are
if you can't read the damn screens with a quick glance. Qualcom's
Mirasol display looks like a magazine cover in direct sunlight.

MSL vs. AGL (Again) by
N11rdbird
The MSL/AGL issue has come before the Caesar Creek Soaring Club Board
once again. Not only has the Club been thrown into turmoil again, this
time it has specifically affected our instructors and how to most
effectively teach our students. I am curious if there are other Clubs
or organizations that...

Powerflarm's unknown effect on the first contests in US by
chris
I was wondering how the introduction of powerflarm will effect US
contests, especially Early in the year. Usually changes are made
gradually, and introduced into in regionals a year before nationals.
Not so with powerflarm. It is going to be allowed unrestricted for
nationals from the...

Promote your glider operation by
Tom[_9_]
Glider clubs and commercial operators can contact their local TV
stations and newspapers and give them the following link. Suggest they
are invited to visit your operation where you will give them a free
flight. The media is hungry for human interest stories, so it is very
easy to get outstanding...

North-Up versus Direction-Up? by
ContestID67
It is winter here and the only soaring we are doing in Chicago is in
the hangar . During an energetic discussion on the pros and cons of
various soaring programs, I mentioned I fly "Direction-Up", rather
than "North-Up".
WHOA! You would have thought that I had said I was going to give up
soaring...

Hotellier connections by
Mike
I was watching my friend struggle with (AD required)safty wires for
Hotellier connectors on his recently purchased Pegasus. He said the
AD notes alternatives to the safty wires like the Wedekind sleeves.
Anyone know if these are retrofittable and where they can be obtained.
I'm sure this has been...
