Vertical Card Compass Mystery by
Rosspilot
A strange thing has happened that I cannot explain. I wonder what the
readership thinks . . .
I have a Precision vertical card compass. I fly at least 3 times a week, and I
know my airplane real well. Last week, when I looked at my compass, the little
airplane
that should point up was about 30...

Vertical Card Compass compatible with "V" brace? by
Jeff P
I have a 172XP with a float kit "V" brace on the glare shield. Does
anyone have any experience with mounting a vertical card compass next
to hunks of steel tubing? Do you think I have any hope of being able
to calibrate here?

Vertex VXA-300 Pilot III by
KevinBlack
Looking at buying Vertex VXA-300 Pilot III as backup comm device.
Anyone have any experience with these. Price is good (compared even with
the sporty's version of about same specs). Icom are a bit pricy. Can get
the VXA-150 for about $50 less, but the 300 looks pretty good...

Variations in engine prices by
Nathan Young
Why do prices for different variations of the same engine vary
significantly? For example, factoryengines.com lists about 200
different variations of the TSIO520 for many different airframes.
Many datapoints between the high and low costs can be found, and of
course, you generally pay more for...

Value of a knot by
Dude
I got an idea from a recent thread.
I would like to know what you guys would spend to go a little faster. This
would seem to be interesting information, and a fun topic.
Please note the present speed of your plane, because 5 knots means a lot
more at 100 than 200.
Personally, It seems to me that...

value adjustment for short tbo on cam by
Paul kgyy
I'm trying to figure out what's an appropriate value adjustment to an
engine that has an upcoming tbo on the camshaft.
Engine: IO360 C1C Lycoming
Engine was torn down in 2002 (prop strike inspection), new lifters,
new valves, chrome cylinders honed, new rings, about 400 hours ago.

Vacuun pump failed? by
RAM
Today noticed the vacuum gauge starting to inch upward. Climbed from 5.0
to almost 8.0 in 5 minutes. DG and AI acting normal the whole time.
Then....dropped to zero and the gyros obviously quit. I only have
experienced 1 vacuum pump failure before and it just dropped to zero
without climbing first....

Vacuum pumps by
vk6ad
Hi all
Can anyone point me to some real-life reliability data for the Sigma Tek
Aeon vacuum pumps? They seem great on paper, guaranteed for 2000 hours / 5
years.
Cheers

Vaccuum Pressure Gauge by
Al
Now that its cold again, my vacuum pressure gauge is acting up (again). In
the past, when it was cold, it would take a few minutes to come up to the
correct reading. Now, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to come up. All
dials are OK, and when the gauge comes up, it reads in the normal range.
Any...

Va and turbulent air penetration speed. by
Doug
Kershner's "The Advanced Pilot's Flight Manual" has the following
definition for Va.
Va - The maneuvering speed. This is the maxiumu speed at a particular
weight at which the controls may be fully deflected without
overstressing the airplane.
Now, Va is commonly taught as turbulent air...

Can anybody give me an idea what is involved in doing this? I believe the
engine is approved for the airplane if you follow some Beech drawing. No
info on how to get the drawing.
TIA,

Using wing jacks on an Archer by
Mike Noel
I just got a wing jack from Aircraft Jacks and I'm trying to figure out if
I'll be able to safely use just one jack to get just one main gear off the
ground. The jack instructions assume you will use multiple jacks and a tail
weight to simultaneously lift both wings in a level attitude. Is it...

Using Ethanol in Your Plane by
Jay Honeck
There's a California fellow over on the Cherokee 235/236 user's group who is
using ethanol-laced mogas in his Cherokee 235, exclusively, and without
difficulty.
He admits that he *has* ruined his fiberglass tip tanks -- at something like
$3500 each -- but this has not deterred him from simply...
