Caution - Arizona Airspace and Borders by
Andy[_1_]
Turnpoint Exchange includes airspace files. The airspace files listed
under Arizona Soaring Association were not provided by ASA, are not
approved by ASA, and are known to not properly depict the location of
the US Mexico border.
In the file asa_2010_sua.sua the border is defined by the...

FLARM 2.79 beta by
Andy[_1_]
Evaluated with portable only.
There is a very significant improvement in PCAS performance in this build. This morning, while monitoring the KPHX arrival, I consistently saw approaching traffic appear at 4-5 miles and approx 6000ft unless another PCAS target was a higher priority.
On the other...

Power connector PFP by
Andy[_1_]
Can someone please provide a link to the specification (size and polarity) of the PowerFLARM portable coaxial power jack. I was unable to find the information in V1.00 of the user manual and I'm unable to download V2.00 from the US PowerFLARM website.
thanks,
Andy

PF Portable and Flarmnet by
Andy[_1_]
As most will know by now the PowerFLARM Portable does not support
Flarmnet. Currently the benefits of Flarmnet cannot be realized
unless a Flarmnet compatible external display is used with the
portable.
Will FLARM please comment on when this feature will be added.

Power FLARM portable reports? by
Andy[_1_]
The long awaited Power FLARM portable was delivered to customers some
weeks ago but I have seen no reports about how well it it performing.
Is this just because the soaring season is over for most US pilots?
Does anyone have some test result or impressions to share.

Pawnee front seal leak by
Andy[_1_]
Both Pawnees at the local glider club suffer from leaking front
crankshaft oil seals. One has had several oil seal changes and the
problem is not cured, the other started leaking within a few hundred
hours of a major overhaul. One is in original fixed prop
configuration and the other was...

Display for PowerFLARM brick by
Andy[_1_]
Some time ago potential purchasers of the (US) PowerFLARM brick were
offered the choice of the bundled display or the 57mm panel mount
display. No information on either seemed to be available from US
dealers so it was impossible to make an informed choice.
Butterfly has advised me that no English...

Aero 1500 as terminal for 302 by
Andy[_1_]
Some like to clear the Cambridge 302 flights logs periodically as it
is reputed to prevent the file security issue. This can be done with
a laptop PC using hyperterm or similar.
Since the my PDA is already connected to the 302 it would seem much
more convenient to use it than to connect a...

Aero 1530 help by
Andy[_1_]
I need some help with the the Aero 1530 (CE 2.11). A bit strange for
me I know since I'm the one usually giving help with this PDA. I'm
guessing many of the folks that still use this ancient device are
sailplane pilots, hence the post here.
I'm stuck with a corrupted contacts file. It displays...

No FLARM log equals Unsafe Operation? (USA) by
Andy[_1_]
Pilots who have participated in a recent SSA Sanctioned contest are
being polled in an attempt to persuade the rules committee to adopt a
MIRA (Mandatory if Rentals Available) rule for 2011 SSA sanctioned
contests.
The proposed rule will require all contestants to submit, after each
contest...

sport airplane from private glider by
Andy[_1_]
In a recent thread it was asserted that it was possible to get sport
pilot airplane privileges without taking a knowledge test and flight
test if the pilot held a private glider rating. For some reason I
cannot see that thread. I had doubts that this was true and followed
up with AOPA.
The text...

Required days for Nationals (USA) by
Andy[_1_]
What is the minimum number of days required to select a national
champion and where is that specified?
What rules apply to seeding points earned at a Nationals and where are
they specified?
I'm sitting out the rain at Hobbs and can't reconcile the SSA FAI
Nationals rules with some information...

World Class Nationals (US) by
Andy[_1_]
I seems to be a sad reflection on our sport, or the rules that govern
it, that a contest with only 7 contestants can be called a
"Nationals".
I'm used to flying local club contests with 3 times more contestants
than that!

More restrictions for "experimental" by
Andy[_1_]
Two local pilots had FAA ramp inspections last Friday and one other,
after declining to be inspected, had a discussion with an inspector.
It appears that the local FSDO is taking the position that NO flight
may be made in a glider with an experimental (racing and exhibition)
certificate, even...

See and Avoid - Birds by
Andy[_1_]
The thing that is perhaps most interesting to me about the A320 Hudson
incident is the report that the first officer, who was pilot flying,
saw the canada geese and "made note of it". Why didn't he take
immediate evasive action? It will be very interesting to see the CVR
transcript.
I wonder how...
