Remote power control by
Paul Tomblin
Last month in "GA News" there was a brief mention of a system that allowed
you to turn on a power plug by calling a pager or cell phone. I was
interested in it for controlling the Tanis heater on my plane, but a
friend at work was describing needing something similar for his cottage to
turn on the...

Tony
Does anyone know of portable moving map software that I can use on my
laptop computer? I would like to use the anywhere map software, but they
have yet to give me a response if it will work on my laptop.
Thanks Tony

??Build rolling tool chest? by
Michael Horowitz
You know the rolling mechanics tool chests that provide some work room
on top? you see these in any A&P shop.
I don't need one, so I don't wanna spend much $$$, but if I could
build one for nothing, it would be fun to have.
Anyone built their own rolling tool chest? - Mike

CO Detectors by
Kobra
Anyone know if there is any problem in buying a battery operated "home" CO
detector and mounting it under your seat or somewhere inconspicuous? What
is the difference between a "home" unit and an "aviation" unit?
Now before you get crazy and call me cheap...I know that the credit card
pill type...

Skycraft Landing Light Question by
Jay Honeck
I'm in the midst of having these lights installed, (they are the
cut-in-the-leading-edge landing lights) and we come to a fork in the road
with regards to the wiring.
The kit comes with a split L/R on/off switch, and two 10 amp circuit
breakers. This means that my existing landing light switch...

Stuff that I can remember off the top of my head:

- JPI EDM-700 engine analyzer
- GAMI injectors
- DRE-468 intercom
- KX-155 COM2
- Vertical compass
- 180 SMOH...well, after our return trip, that's more like 195-ish SMOH
- Less than 3000 TTAF

Maintenance questions by
JJS
Okay, the Cherokee 140 annual is nearly finished. Compressions are 80, 80, 80, & 78 over 80 after 5 1/2 years and
650 hours of mostly autogas use.
So far everything looks very good except for two things. My A&P IA was inspecting the propeller spinner back plate
and was turning the prop real slow...

ANR squeal on descent by
Juan Jimenez
Somebody explain to me why ANR headsets squeal when you are descending from
FL180 and lower in an unpressurized aircraft. Flightcom is modifying their
Denalis to deal with this but they say all ANR's do this.

Any Cessna 210 owners? by
Matt Whiting
Does anyone here own an older model C210 (strut-wing models)? I'm
looking at a 1966 and would like to learn more about the real world
costs of operation as compared to the 182 I owned previously. I know
the insurance is a lot higher ($3800 vs. $1200), and fuel burn is
higher, but what about...

The Joys of Aircraft Ownership 1,532 & 1,533 by
Brock Boss
Last Saturday my brother/co-owner and I had planned on taking our
fresh-out-of-annual 172 up for a good workout at our home base in
Lincoln, IL (Logan County - KAAA). I'm a 14 hour student pilot on
hiatus. I got sick of paying to fly in other people's airplanes. My
brother, Brad, got his ticket in...

Anybody else have this great GPS? I just got the new updates with
private airports and all, but it keeps crashing. I also was hoping to
add weather to it somehow.

Narco Mk 12D display? by

Anyone have a source for parts (namely, the display) for a Mk 12D
rather than having the factory do it? They won't sell the part
seperatly.

Clear coat peeling: Suggestions? by
Mike
We had our archer II painted in 1996, including a clearcoat. About 6 -
12 months ago the clear coat started peeling just a little, almost
exclusively on the control surfaces. (They were removed and painted
separately, so it makes sense they behaved slightly differently. Now
though, the clear...

Pilots Uniform -2 by
[email protected]
General Aviation Almost went up in smoke forever on 9-11 This is
serious. If we want to be able to fly in our own aircraft, to/from
major airports ( even smaller airports) then we MUST retain the
RESPECT and CREDIBILITY to / of the non-flying public.
Another (contrived??) 'terrorist'...

twinstar vs. cirrus - your call? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I hesitate to ask this question, since on rec.aviation this kind of
thing always turns into a religious war, but here goes: a bunch of us
are getting ready to go in on a new plane together. I travel with my
family, and have already lost one engine over the woods, so the
candidates are the...

Where to advertise a flying club? by

All,
We are trying to increase membership in our Phoenix-area flying club
and was wondering if anyone had ideas of where we should advetise?
(already tried flyers at the airport) Does anyone know where I can
purchase a mailing list of all pilots with a current medical in a
certain geographic...

Oil coolers by
Dan Luke
Somehow, in 6 years of flying, I missed the fact that not all light piston
airplanes have oil coolers. Why is this so? What factor determines when an
O-320, for instance, must have an oil cooler? ISTR that the oil does a large
percentage of the cooling in aircraft piston engines. How does the...
