Drunk pilot loses certificate by
C J Campbell
According to AVweb, John V. Salamone was the drunk pilot who flew through
controlled airspace near Philadelphia on Jan. 15. The FAA alleged that the
pilot endangered the lives of others and forced diversions of several
airliners. His breathalyzer was .13 alcohol level. The FAA has revoked...

Single-engine plane with the best range? by
Bob
Hello,
I've been reading news on flying for quite a while and these seems to
be the most well-informed groups (the googles)on the net. I would
therefore like to have your personnal opinion on a question. I live
in Northern Quebec (Yes, I'm french speaking so forgive the spelling
mistakes) and...

"position & hold" going away by
Paul kgyy
I saw an announcement on Aeronews this morning that the FAA is
proposing that the "taxi into position and hold" process used at
virtually all towered airports be discontinued.
This is really gonna work great at places like Newark, LaGuardia, and
OHare.

How high can I get? by
Mark
Ok, it's the year 2025. If man is still alive.
You are in a little Cessna 150.
You're plane isn't pressurized because it will implode,
so you're wearing a pressurized body suit. You have
an oxygen mask. You plane is powered by a very
powerful hydrogen atom splitting energy source.

Hot shot pilots are scum! by
Labia Veteran
If I ever meet a hotshot pilot in real life they would not walk away from
the experience. I keep a bayonnet around for idiots like that who bomb
innocent people for their own egos.
Except for the lower halfs of the hot black ones.

Marty Ross
I'm looking to gain information about preferred routes, interesting/cheap
refueling stops or siteseeing opportunities, or any other pertinent
information (weather/notams/etc.) for my round-trip flight at the end of
this month (July 2003) from the Los Angeles area to Chico (northern
California). ...

Are we crazy, or just stupid? by
Jay Honeck
I just returned from one of the hardest evenings of my life. Mary, my
kids, and I just attended the visitation for Blane Anderson, our
friend and fellow pilot who lost his life in the crash of a Spencer
Air Car (and amphibious homebuilt craft) last Friday, just west of
Iowa City. He was less than...

Can the list, succinctly, refresh my memory on updating the 196 by

"Tanks on both" checklist item by
Koopas Ly
Good day all,
With regards to fuel tanks in a C172, why does the takeoff and landing
checklists both call for the fuel selector handle to be in the "both
tanks" position?
The only time that fuel is set to one particular tank is on the
ground. I've never used fuel from only one tank in flight. ...

I want to buy a plane by year-end but they're not making it easy. by
T.Roger
I don't have my ticket yet -- and I'm really committed because I want to buy
my own plane to train and fly -- and I want to take advantage of the tax
write-off about to expire at year end.
I've been at this since August.
But, hell, they're not making it easy.
All I've asked of Cirrus, Piper and...

things to carry by
Gary Drescher
A pilot crashed on a NH mountain in fog yesterday. He survived, but his
17-year-old son did not. Rescuers were able to find him in part because he
was blowing a whistle. I just added one to my flight bag.

Ground control vs. clearance delivery for VFR by
B A R R Y
My local Delta base (HFD) will contact nearby BDL TRACON and obtain a
squawk code for VFR flight following or traffic advisories. This
service is "advertised" on the ATIS and is requested from ground
control on initial call up by departures. Ground calls you back with
a code and the proper...

A pilot friend sent me this. It's probably already made the rounds, but I

ILS approach to near minimums - Video by
[email protected]
First time for me going down to near ILS minimums by myself. Video
includes how I brief my IFR approaches.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCk_RRMemnM
Video I think does a good job on demonstrating why the runway may not
be always exactly in front of you after wind correction angle
considerations...
