Survival Kits by
ContestID67
I am a big believer in having some form of survival kit in my glider.
Even in the "wilds" of the midwest I can get stuck outside for a while
before being "rescued". I am always on the lookout for items to add
to my kit which I have built up over time. Whistles, fire starters,
signal mirrors,...

Sacrificial layer for gear-up protection. by
Bill D
Lets say you are deploying a retractible gear glider in a club with members who some might suspect of landing the thing gear-up someday. (Of course, you private owners never land gear-up...) Is there a way to minimize the damage when the inevitable day arrives?
Maybe. One of my favorite...

AOA indicator poll. by
Luc Job
Hi!
I have developed last year a solid-state AOA indicator, based on a
differential pressure measurement (total pressure/pressure at angle)
Undoubtedly, this is a primary flight instrument to me:
-It shows where you are aerodynamically speaking, independently of
all the variable parameters:...

SLA batteries opinions? by
john firth
Recently I tested two 12v SLA s which had been in use
sequentially for some years usually recharged before going
going flat, or at least within one day.
Both were run down to 10.5 v with a 10 ohm load and then recharged to 14v,
The Yuasa 7 AH bought 2005 was good for about 2.5 AH
the UB...

Multiple varios by
John Foster
Why do so many gliders seem to have multiple varios? Is it that critical to have a back-up for this instrument? Do they often fail and leave you in "
the lurch"?

ASG-29E vs. JS-1Jet Sustainer by
Gerry Simpson
I am very interested in purchasing one or the other and having difficulty weighing the merits each of because of no direct experience with either. I would like to have some advice concerning reliability, resale values, performance and build quality. Can I compare apples and apples with these two?

Does anyone use the Club Class? by
Pat Russell[_2_]
Does any country run competitions in the IGC Club Class?
USA does not. We have the Sports Class, which allows any glider to
enter, and another Sports Class (called, locally, the Club Class)
which uses a restricted list of gliders that is different from the IGC
Club Class list.

Midair near Minden by
Fred
What soaring pilots have been talking about for some time has happened.
Yesterday, in startling clear weather, with visibility measured in
dozens of miles or more, a Hawker jet ran into a sailplane at about
13,500' (5,000' AGL or more) some 10 miles east of Minden airport. The
sailplane pilot had...
