TE probe up or down? by
kirk.stant
It's raining at the field today so here is a serious soaring question
to ponder:
Should the end of the TE probe on the fin point up or down?
Informal surveys at recent contests seem to show a slight preference
for up (not counting those "swingers" that go both ways).
I've heard all sorts of...

Empty weight of Grob Astir CS by
mike maskell
I have just done a weight and balance on our Club's Grob Astir CS and
after computing the empty weight and C of G we find that the max pilot
weight is 210 pounds (no chute, no batteries). The empty weight is 626
pounds which seems quite high. The glider POH states that the empty
weight is 560...

Nice article by
smithcorp
I don't think I'm alone here in monitoring press articles about
gliding - I like to identify the elements that make the story
'work' (in particular the ones that capture the things i enjoy about
gliding). This one's a good one I reckon. Low on the fear/challenge
factor and high on the accurate...

(US) Cobra Tire Redux by
5E
Thank you all for the fine past discussions archived here (2004, 2008,
2009) on this topic.
Without having read all of that three years ago, I put a set of good
touring passenger tires with adequate load rating on my Cobra and have
been careful to keep them maximally inflated. It's a 2002 with...

iPhone Logger? by
vontresc
From time to time I check the iPhone app store for soaring apps. I
just came across GlidePath. The developer claims it's OLC compliant. I
havent purchased it yet, but it looks like a good backup for OLC
flying.

Race Reports, R4S, USA by

To Contest Director and Scribe Dick Butler: Thank you for the daily
reports! They are well written, fun to read, and full of good
information.
And, to Scorer Leo Buckley: Thank you for your work in getting the
scores out for all of us to see!
Of course, to my friend and mentor (although I must...

How to check functionality of solar vent on Cobra trailer? by
Matt Herron Jr.
Is there an easy way to check that my solar powered vent on top of the
Cobra trailer is functioning properly? I haven't heard it running
lately, but don't really know what triggers it to run (besides light
of course...)
Thanks,
Matt

Cambridge 302 USB Driver? by
NG[_2_]
Anybody successful in connecting a Cambridge 302 to a laptop using the
new USB port? The instructions say that the laptop should find the
necessary driver on the device, mine does not, says it can not find
driver software for DLP-TXRX, and that's as far as I can get. Is it
possible to get the...

Philip Lawrence CG-4A Pilots List? by
Karen
Anyone know how to find more data and photos on WWII glider pilots
from both 29 Palms and Lubbock TX?
Communicated with George at the Nat WW2 Glider Pilots Assn, but we
know there are some amateur historians who monitor this group and
others.
Philip and his family are receiving a special...

Do you support establishing a US Club Class? Yes answers only! by
Tim[_2_]
Hello All:
If you have not figured it out, this is a topic I care passionnately
about...
Could we try and give the members of the US RC that post here/read
opinions here regularly an idea of the possible support for
establishing a stand alone US Club Class Nationals?
I recognize that the devil...

Zaon Service by

While we’re lauding service to the gliding community consider
this: (Thanks Tim on another thread)
I have had my MRX for several years, and have never seen an indication
that there was traffic anywhere. At the end of a runway at Pearson
International in Toronto, it told me...

Missing Glider #2 by
jim archer
Presumably somebody came and picked up the Ventus 2 that I was
flying? It was parked outside the fence, on a public street, at my
local airport for the last few weeks. Some notice would have been
appreciated, the conditions were quite good the other day and I had a
badge flight planned

This link is to a video prepared to illustrate lessons from a crash in
January, 2009
I believe this is the crash in which several members of the Chicago
soaring community perished.
