AOPA Pilot Magazine by
Wayne Paul
I received my copy of Pilot Magazine today. It has a soaring picture on page 2 & 3. Mike Fizer took the picture at the Senior Championship.
It is nice to see our sport represented in an AOPA publication.

JC
Is anyone familiar with this variometer?
I am shopping for some variometers for our club gliders and Avio
Service of Bulgaria offered these and the VR10 from PZL.
I can´t find anything on internet but maybe someone with a LAK/ SZD/
LET/ IAR glider has one.
Any comments would be greatly...

HD video from Logan Region 9 Contest by
Bruno
This was my first contest and I must say that flying contests is so
much more fun, rewarding and lower stress than I ever imagined.
Everyone was pretty laid back and very helpful and willing to give
tips and advice the new racers. Thanks again!
I ended up making two different HD videos during the...

Question about blipmaps by
Spam
Alright here's a question about top of useable lift for the blipmaps.
If the thermal tops are 7,000
and the cloudbases are 5,000
and the top of useable lift is 4,000
Does this mean that when you get to 4,000 you will have risen to the
top and can only circle around in zero sink there?

USA: Regional Contest Entry w/ Drop Outs by
Tim Hanke
The Region 3 Contest was just canceled in Dansville when 5 people
within the last week of the contest withdrew. Doesn't sound like a big
deal but when you only have 20 pilots signed up, its a huge deal.
Now reading Charlie “Lite” Minner 's Region 9N report, they had 20
pilots bail out of the...

Glider fatality in Idaho by
Hellman
I'm sad to report that we lost one of our own on Wednesday. Thierry
Thys was participating in an Idaho glider safari and crashed sometime
that afternoon or evening on his return to Arco's airport. SAR didn't
locate the wreckage until just before dark on Thursday, and it was not
accessible until...

Ideal Variometer by
ryanglover1969
I have a few suggestions for the way my vario, an LX1600 should work,
ideally.
I would like it to switch between "STF mode" and "Climbing mode" when
I hit lift or sink. Ideally it should switch to climbing mode when I
hit lift that equals or exceeds my MC setting. Of course there would
still be a...

One-man rigging question by
Mike[_28_]
I have an ASW 15 which has fork and tongue spars with two main pins.
My current assembly method is to insert both wings and then have the
helper raise the tip of one wing and slowly lower it while the other
wing tip is on a stand. I work the pins and when they are going in I
have the helper hold...

iPhone for Landout Retrieves - US by
chris
Currently I have a Verizon trimode phone . It did have
the capability to use the analog network in remote areas before that
system was turned off last year. So it had been pretty good at
picking up a signal outside of urban areas/ Soaring=boondocks. Now
that analog is gone are all digital phones...

Video clip from the Sunship Game by
Guy Byars[_2_]
Here is one of my favorite video clips from "The Sunship Game"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivmJiwqlfSg
It has a good soundtrack and lots of action. I especially liked
watching all the interesting vintage 1960s cars, trailers and related
gear pulling into Marfa for the 1969 contest.

Westbound Trailer Hitch by
Mitch
I will have an empty trailer hitch going west to Moriarty from the
Panhandle of Florida in late September. I am willing to take a glider
out there for well below what any commercial towing service would
charge. Let me know ASAP if you might be interested!
