PLEASE NEED HELP with Cherokee 180 metal bulkhead problem under back seat by
C
Hi folks,
I ran into a little problem today.
Working on a 100hour just a month before the annual is due -- my
mechanic and I lifted the back seat to look at the cabling underneath.
Lo and behold -- we found a "tear" in an aluminum bulkhead under the
back seat.
The bulkhead is under the back of...

What is the story on these? Is the system as reliable as it claims? Anyone
know approximate operating costs?

Diamond DA-40 with G-1000 pirep by
C J Campbell
I got a demo flight in a Diamond DA-40 equipped with the Garmin G-1000 glass
cockpit this morning. We departed IFR from Tacoma Narrows and flew west for
some maneuvers. This plane was the second one out of the factory with the
G-1000. I had a difficult time maintaining my altitude; the altitude...

Cessna 182T w. G-1000 pirep by
C J Campbell
OK, I know I said I would not get to fly this plane until tomorrow, but it
arrived early and so I took a flight. This is a new turbocharged Cessna
T182T.
For those that have not seen the 182T (either turbo or normal, introduced
last year), you might be a little startled the first time you take a...

Cirrus vs. 182 by
C J Campbell
This article pretty much describes the differences between the two airplanes
and points up the issues that I have with the Cirrus.

(Grumble) Hangar rash by
C J Campbell
Or should I say flagpole rash. I just found out one of the line guys was
dragging my plane around with a tug and managed to snag the flagpole,
leaving a nice flagpole shaped dent in the leading edge of the left wing. I
told Mike to just tie the guy to the flagpole, and I will bring in some wood
to...

New Cessna panel by
C J Campbell
Yesterday I saw the new Cessna Nav III package for the 2004 182s and 206s.
It is a Garmin 1000 system with battery backup (not certified for part 135
IFR, though). At last Cessna enters the 21st century.

Planeless by
C J Campbell
Well, I have sold my plane. Coincidentally, it is going to the same place
where I will be doing missionary work -- the Philippines. Perhaps I shall
see it again some day.
It feels funny to be planeless after seven years of ownership. I will be
looking for another plane when we get back in late...

The 206 is finally done by
C J Campbell
It took more than a month, but my 206 is finally flying again after getting
the wing skin replaced. A line guy had towed it into a flagpole. They did
not have to make any modifications and everything is just as it was before.
We ended up replacing the whole leading edge assembly rather than peel...

Cessna LSA -- Good Luck if you want one by
C J Campbell[_1_]
Cessna is rationing their LSA very strictly. Each dealer gets exactly
one! If you want a Cessna LSA you AND your dealer, apparently, have to
go to Oshkosh with a $10,000 deposit one week before the show and meet
with a Cessna representative. There are no hotel rooms available and
Cessna will...

Amphibian/floatplane insurance? by
C Kingsbury
Howdy,
Curious as to what people are paying to insure waterbirds- I'm a low-time
PPL-ASEL/S-IR and would like to someday get to use that "Sea" rating a
little more often. As it is now I do have the opportunity to build some solo
time in a 172 floatplane up in Maine but that's a 4-hour drive from...

Best bet in a used IFR GPS? by

Hi all,
Currently examining options for upgrading a 1979 172N with an IFR-certified
GPS. We currently have two good nav/coms, M-1 Loran, and ADF that we want to
replace.
Goal is to find the most cost-efficient IFR GPS install to replace the ADF
and add legal /G and DME capabilities. Keeping in...

Ignition leads by
C Kingsbury
So a few weeks back I posted here about large mag drops and electrical noise
on the radio. Many posters prognosticated that an ignition lead was to
blame, and when the mechanic opened the cowling, this was confirmed- one
lead gone beyond repair.
He put all leads on a tester, and said the other 7...

RPM drop and "popping" sound on mag check, C-172 by
C Kingsbury
Hi there,
Googling past threads yielded nothing definitive so here goes:
On runup today, noted the following:
1. RPM to 1700, switched to right mag, dropped ~150 rpm
2. Increased RPM to 2000, leaned back until I got a 100rpm drop and
held for one minute to clear it. We've had to do this pretty...
