(USA) 2010 Program Letters (have FAA requirements changed?) by
Tuno
I recently submitted my 2010 Program Letter to my local FSDO, and he
replied with "In reviewing your program letter it was determined that
it needs to be revised", followed by excerpts from 8130.2F 11/5/2004
(page 166). (Alas he did not get specific wrt the needed revisions.)
All I did was take my...

(USA) ACTION - L-13 Blanik Owners by
mike malis
To date, less than 5% of the L-13 owners have placed comments to the
latest AD grounding your bird indefinitely in just three days. The
newest AD applies to EVERYONE, even the poor guy I know with a factory
zero timed L-13 he paid 18k for.
TODAY AT MIDNIGHT IS THE DEADLINE FOR...

(USA) Airport data now available with Airspace files by
Tuno
In addition to the NDF-based airspace files that subscribers at
justsoar.com will receive, turnpoint files describing airports from
the current FAA NASR database will also be provided with the download.
I think this feature will be pretty useful. If you provide a turnpoint
file to the web page to...

(USA) Data suggestion for WinPilot users by
Tuno
Okay, this is partially a plug for my own web site, but after helping
a couple of WinPilot users set up their data files, I want to offer
these suggetions to other users who might be struggling with the same
setup questions:
(1) As mentioned on WinPilot's web page, the airspace data...

(USA) FAA airport database in Google Earth (KML) files by
Tuno
http://www.justsoar.com/public/nasr_apt/
These kml files provide an easy way to browse airports in Google Earth
(current motivation is to examine privately owned strips for
landability -- yer welcome, 66!).
Each file covers an FAA region as follows:

(USA) FlarmNet usage by
2NO
I can't find any recent discussions on FlarmNet, which is plugged in the Butterfly display manual.
Are most USA PF users registering on FlarmNet.org?
How is the .bnf file installed?
Is it used by the BF display, or by the PF core?
Most importantly will it make me fly faster???

(USA) FS: Cambrideg 302 by
Tuno
Less than two years old, serial number 4HA, software version 2.63,
calibration date 1/24/2008, offered at $2000. I've been using this as
a backup logger but I'd like to switch to a lower cost flight recorder
that uses its own power supply.
Also available for an additional $200 are an iPAQ hx4705...

(USA) FSDO inspections of Experimental gliders by

I was recently contacted by my local FSDO (Scottsdale AZ) with a
request to do a ramp inspection of my glider.
He explained that starting this year, he is required to do "a ramp
inspection and records review of every aircraft that is operating on
an air racing and/or exhibition special...

(USA) Handicapping... by
Bob
Just noticed the Region 6 North contest going on at the moment and
wondered how they work the handicaps for a combined 15M $ STD Class
contest. It appears as though all the 15M are handicaped at 1.0 and
the Std at something else. How is it done officially?

(USA) Issues with latest (0913) FAA NFD airspace edition by
Tuno
The 0912 cycle was pretty quiet because the FAA was too busy mucking
up the 0913 edition. A couple of issues users should be aware of:
(1) The "Restrictive Airspace Name" field in the subject release is
missing the first character for most (if not all) airspace records.
Those those of you in...

(USA) logbook endorsement requirement(s) for new glider type? by
Tuno
For as long as I've been flying anything, including and especially
gliders, I've had a CFI endorse a cockpit checkout in my logbook, for
any new aircraft type I flew.
Can someone tell me what/who requires this? Is it strictly insurance
companies, or is there a relevant FAR paragraph?
The reason...

days by an FAA certified...
