Info on Tilt- Rototrs Needed by
[email protected]
Hey guys, I am thinking on giving a seminar on Tilt-Rotor Aircrafts as
a part of my Mechanical Engineering Final Year Syllabus. However all
the info i found on the net (read Google) deals with the BA-609 and the
Osprey specifically and not with the concept of Tilt Rotors. Can anyone
help me out?...

Power Off Touchdown Autorotation by
SelwayKid
Well it appears this board needs something to stir some activity. So,
let's talk about touchdown autorotations. Just like spins in the
phyxed wing world, there are those who argue for/against touchdown
autos.
I've been flying helicopters since the mid 60's and have done quite a
few touchdown autos...

Rocks Thrown at Border Patrol Chopper
Aug 25 3:31 PM US/Eastern
YUMA, Ariz.
Illegal immigrants threw rocks at a Border Patrol helicopter,
forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing when one of the rocks
damaged the rotor, the agency said.
Neither the pilot nor the Border Patrol observer was...

Why do gyros use tilt head rather than swashplate by
Phillip
Would a gyro with a swashplate ( just for pitch control) fly any different
(better, worse) than using a tilt type rotor head? Just more complex?
Also, I've seen some photos of early kit helicopters that appear to have
just a tilting head (no way to auto-rotate ?). Isn't this a bit of a death
wish?...

Autorotations by
Ol Shy & Bashful
It's getting pretty boring here. So, who has done an actual emergency
autorotation and what was the outcome?
As previously posted, I've done at least five with various failures and
all to successful conclusions. Geeez guys....it's Christmas! Can't we
say something or do something to brighten up the...

Learning to be a helicoper pilot by
None
Sorry if this is a FAQ - a friend of mine heard a commercial on the radio to
learn to be a helicoper pilot from Silver State Helicopers. He doesn't know
much about the internet, but asked me if I could find post on this group for
him.
* Is learning to be a helicoper pilot a reasonable thing to...

Crop Dusting with Helicopters by
[email protected]
Since I seem to have stirred a little interest, I'll try to enlighten
those who care to read it. I'm one of those fortunate few who get to do
stuff that many can't even dream of or imagine with helicopters. An old
friend of mine, corporate helo pilot with 12K+ hours did some ag flying
with me and...

Q: What can a Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence holder expect to earn? by
Trentus
I have a number of options for the use of a recent inheritance, one of which
is to fullfil a lifetime desire to fly choppers.
What could a Helicopter Pilot expect to earn, flying in Australia?
I realise this may be a little like asking, "How long is a piece of string?"
(A: twice as long as half...

TFR not right IMO by
Bart
I was getting ready to go today and noticed that there were two
new TFR's for me to avoid. One of them closed a regional airport,
and the other a few miles away to the northwest. I saw the words
"Secret Service" and figured #1 or #2 was gonna be in town.
I did a news search and found out that the...

Helicopter Ag flying by
[email protected]
As a lurker for some time, I am in awe of the ability it must take to
be an ag flyer. I have flown helis for several years but only as a PP.
The gentleman here who professes to be an ag pilot has more than a
little daring in him to perform some of his required feats.
I also "sort of" understand the...

I Want to Fly Military Helicopters! by
Thomas Ewing
To start off, I am 18 years old and graduating from high school. I am
very strong academically and intellectually, with scores of 1560 and 32
on my SAT and ACT, respectively. Hopefully this means that I am suited
to handle the mental tasks of being a pilot.
As cliché as it is, I have wanted to...

Pop out floats on a 206BIII by
Mike Th...
We operate floats on all our Jetrangers and our 407. For a 206BIII, I think
the weight difference compared to high skids is about 75lbs. As for an
effect on airspeed I'm not so sure because I'm on the maintenance side of
the company. Yet I figure 5-10 knots. If you want some precise numbers I...

I sure miss the old days when we had a lively discussion group with
some very experienced pilots opining upon matters. Poster were for the
most part civil and if you could ask the right questions then listen a
guy like Nick Lappos (or many other very experienced pilots) would
respond.
